Never liked Mr Smith's personally. Always full of poseurs of both sexes (much preferred granny grabbing in the Showboat). Even my mates saw the light by the mid 90's. I used to call them all Roger Black........one lap of the place, and they're out.
Still have memories of coming out of the ABC (as was) in the late 70's on a New Years Day, and seeing about a foot of snow....awesome snowball fight on Bewsey Park, afterwards.
When it was re-opened in the autumn of 2011, I was speaking to someone involved in the re-opening night.
He was told that the owners wanted it to be flats then, but the Town Council were INSISTANT that it should be given another go as a night club.
So, opening night comes
No draught beer available
No change in the tills
Broken glass all over the place
Punters going out as fast as they were coming in, because of al the above
Second weekend was a repeat of the above, so, hey-ho, it shuts, and lays idle for 4 years.
I truly hope that the council grows a spine, and tells the prospective flat builders to "love off", and the site either becomes
a) a theatre/entertainment complex
b) gardens
c) even another ####ing drive in car wash
just don't give in to another block of apartments, like the Town Centre needs them, especially at the biggest bottleneck for miles.
