Quote The Angry Pirate="The Angry Pirate"Yes, but since the Watkins/ Fielding inspired days of then, they have produced little.....Certainly from that era onwards, they have been a club on a downward spiral, certainly in the north west area, they have lagged a long way behind, Wire, Wigan, Saints & Widnes.
I applaud their desire to bring back the glory days and to attempt to stimulate an uninspired local public, but I had to correct Sally, who seems to believe that Wire have been in the doldrums since the Brian Bevan era.'"
Not sure what you mean, I was talking about the position we were in when we started looking at our new stadium. We were at a low point in our history and had had depressed crowds for a long time, even in the 1980s when we had some success, we had low average attendances with good gates against Wigan and Saints at home and very low crowds for the rest. When you are trying to attract fans, they are not going to care about the clubs history and what it did twenty or thirty years ago. Salford now are not in much of a different situation to where we were in 1998/99 and we had the same sceptics telling us it will never work. Not saying it will be easy but if they get a good stadium, and manage to bring some sponsorship on board, they will be able to bring better players in and become a more credible side to appeal to new supporters.
