I think you're wearing KH blinkers - in his tenure we had a cracking start to the SL season, but went downhill from the middle of that season and right through the next one, leading to him going - no was was it "since KH was sacked"

| Its time for the petty bickering about puntuation, spelling, grammer and difference of opinion to stop and accept the decision of the club to make PV head coach.
Time to get behind him and the players and support our club in our new home.
Time to judge will be next October as to whether the right man was given the job.

| Quote: BartonFlyer "I just can't believe the sheer rudeness of some on this site - "Vievers is a yes man" say quite a few - Solly, GT et al (who's Al I hear you ask....) - how the f*** do you justify that kind of insult?'"
You make it sound like I've called him a useless, fat, bald c**t or something similar.
Honest answer? I've nothing against Vievers himself and, to be honest, I do think that he'll do a good job. However, it does seem a bit strange to me that he was overlooked in the first instance for Parish but is then put into the post when he leaves under a cloud and telling everyone how sh*te the club is.
Does that mean he's definitely a "yes man"? No.
Does that mean Vievers thinks of himself as/knows he's a "yes man"? No.
Does that mean the club have got him in the job because he's been around for a while and they think he'll be less questioning of what goes on behind the scenes and will be easy to keep to the party line? In my opinion (yes, opinion, I have no problem with other people's opinions differing, would you believe) yes, that's probably how the club looked at it. Particularly has the job would be very hard to sell to anyone else outside Salford.
Whether that is true or not remains to be seen. How things will work out remains to be seen. As has been mentioned elswhere, Phil could easily go about sorting things out internally without shouting about it - as it is, he could be as radical as Parish wanted to be but we may never find out. He's certainly got my support whilst he's in the post anyway, regardless of my opinions stated above.

| I wish some posters would not be so definate in their pronouncements; whether they be forecasting the success or failure of the coach, or the reasons he was chosen. From what I have seen of him, he is no yes man: he certainly was not at Saint Helens.
As GT, I will be supporting him. We have no idea of how he will succeed. Compare Villas-Boas who was appointed under the banners of the greatest new manager since ... (he could still be) and others in all sports: Graham Taylor was seen as a second coming (following huge success with Watford and Villa) when he took over at England but failed dismally (with personal criticism heaped on him by the popular press underming his actions).
So until mid-season, we cannot be sure of what will happen. The proof of any coach is uncertain until the season is well under way.
So Veivers, good luck, and my suppport.

| So fingers crossed then for a decent bit of luck with the fixture list then. But saying that if we do get easy teams and then perform poorly then he might not even make it to the end of the season!

Optimist it appears you have been possessed by the spirit of Garry Schofield
1st rnd is Feb3 and World Club Challenge is on rnd 3 so
will only be on round 12 -13 by the end of April so losing 18 by then will be exceptional.

To be fair Karl's overall record was as follows:
Win: 46%
Draw: 3%
Lost: 51%
I doubt greatly many (if any) Salford managers have a record like that over the past 35 years.
He even ended up with a positive points difference over his 158 matches in charge with a plus of 259, so I think you're being a little unfair when you only point out 47 games during 2006 & 2007. He had the same (if not less) financial clout to sign players but he knitted a decent competitive side together during his spell. He's done a sterling job at Batley and I'm sure he'll be a success at Halifax, Karl's a very good manager when all told.

| LOTS the point I made wasn't the overall record but the pattern of it - I agree that KH is now looking a good manager, but it all went badly wrong as Salford (mind you he's in good company there)

| KOTS, what was his SL record like though. Lets remember we were far superior when relegated. Even McRae managed wins in NL.
