It's laughable isn't it? As they keep telling us, we haven't really bought any superstars yet. So why are they getting their knickers in such a twist?

It baffles me why opposition fans want to bash Salford all of a sudden.

Simple

For decades we were the cuddly poor relative: many supporters' second club. We were no threat to them but could be relied on two/three times a season to beat a bigger club. So Wigan fans liked us as we occasionally beat Saints or Leeds, Hull fans could depend on us beating HKR once or twice etc. For most games we played against those clubs we lost. We were no threat to them, we provided entertainment and we "knew our place".

Suddenly we are a possible threat to the big clubs: hang on, the peasants are revolting. We could remove their right to "days out in the sun" at Wembley or Old Trafford. We are a threat to the small clubs: if we improve, we will not be one of the the club of teams likely to be relegated in a year or two. I am sure several clubs had us down as favourites and so thought their situation was safer: te odds wee better.

We are also doing what other (particularily two) clubs did to us: fancy a player: word in ear, watch that player relax knowing they were moving on. It drove me mad to know nothing we could do would keep a much valued palyer at Salford. Crikey, we have had two Aussies get homesick and mix up Sydney with West Yorkshire! It will be annoying other fans.

This next statement may surprise a few of you but quite frankly now that Koukash is on board and your club is beginning to show signs of stability it can only be to the good of this region that Salford are indeed successful.
I think where your chairman lets himself down is brash statements which often sound ridiculous to other fans, don't get me wrong ambition is a good attribute to have in any business but better to wait and then sit back admiring your achievements.
It may all come to fruition and at that point you will all be able to stick two fingers up to the rugby league world.

I don't think you'd get many Salford fans disagreeing with you.

That's the way he does things and, ok it's not the ideal way in some peoples eyes, but it's the way he does it because he says that's his nature. A lot of other fans don't see what else he brings to the table, which is a shame. He has the ability to comfortably socialise with big nobs and the lowliest fan. How many of his detractors know what he did after winning the signed shirt at Warrington? He's approachable and probably a little too honest and trusting. He saved our Club when extinction loomed and the fact that he's a real character in a game that seems determined to stamp out characters has only endeared him more to us.

There may not be a fairytale ending at the end of all this, but he's guaranteed our team a longer lease of life with a great ride along the way. I can't ask for more than that.

Sophocles was famed for writing tragedies, some might argue that it is very apt that a Cas fan is quoting him. He was also born and died before Christ, so pretty modern stuff from that neck of the woods.

Just to throw my lot in, as a Wakefield supporter (for a looooong time) I'm more than happy that Salford are on the up.
Koukash is certainly rocking the boat but good for him, and Salford. I'd prefer you not to sign any Wakeefield players and you have to play by same rules as everyone else but so far I haven't seen anything to the contrary.

Salford being stronger helps everybody.
Hope your crowds start rolling in when you have the team of all talents. I'll be more than happy if you turn up at Belle Vue with a team of all talents.
I just go back far enough to remember the Salford team of the early 70s. Would be geat to see the likes again.

I think my favourite Sophocles quote is "to him who is in fear, everything rustles". Quite apt for a lot of our relatives in the 'rugby league family'.

And our new owner could add another Sophocles quote:
"Fortune is not on the side of the faint-hearted."
