| National League teams get much more TV exposure on Sky than we do!
The problem is the club are being sold short and its bound to have a detrimental impact on sponsorship when compared to other clubs who get twice or three times as much tv exposure as us. I'm surprised this hasn't been raised before because the person(s) responsible for selecting games are in a position to influence club finances and I question if it's being done honestly and fairly?

| i think , wigan warrington or hull kr , will be are biggest gate possibably in the region of 9 thousand , depending if we blend together early on with so many new faces in the team , and if we do, and the results go right ,i feel we will get a bit more coverage on sky , but perhaps i am jusat living in hope
keep the faith

Early 1990's before Sky was big. I remember being totally shocked when I read it at the time. From memory it was a cold rainy Saturday afternoon in November. Everybody probably thought I can't be bothered going out in this weather and switched the telly on.

I'm assuming that there is a missing decimal point here. Otherwise this would be just outside the top 20 highest rated TV broadcasts in UK history!

Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

| I think you'll find that figure is extremely accurate. IIRC there was a bus strike in Leigh that day and no away fans made it to The Willows. 98.4% of the the viewers were Leigh fans

I don't know how they calculate the TV audience figures these days but in the early 90's the numbers were determined by the number of people spread throughout the UK with special channel monitoring boxes, watching a certain channel at a certain time. If 1 in say every 2 households who had a box just happened to switch to BBC grandstand that afternoon it explains why the figure published was so high. The figure may be total b*ll*x after all it was just an average estimate based on a small percentage of the population.
I too would be taking the p*ss and laughing about it if I hadn't read it for myself!

What I find surprising is that the figure you quoted was only slightly lower than the audience for JFK's assasination. Over the years I've heard many people claim they'll never forget where they were when JFK was killed. I have yet to hear anyone say the same of a Salford - Leigh Regal Trophy encounter.
Say what you wish about the way TV ratings are calculated (I believe it's no different now) but you'll never convince me that Salford v Leigh is one of the highest rated TV events in UK history. Sorry.

Oddly being to young I don't remeber JFK getting shot by the magic bullet but do remember being on the couch with a monumental dose of the 10 bobs the day of the Leigh game, think if you'd have timed my runns (pun intended) to the crapper that day I'd have been the fastest winger on the pitch.

| The only time I can remember Salford playing Leigh on Grandstand post mid 80s was that time they beat us in the mud in the mud at Hilton Park about 2000. I remember us playing Leigh at home about 1989 on TV when Granada used to show live Saturday afternoon games and it may have been Kevin Tamati's first game as coach. As far as I remember reading, RL cup finals on Grandstand used to peak at 5-6million, and the average cup tie was 2-3 million. Wasn't 20 million about the audience for England V Germany at Italia 90?

Sometimes numbers are separated by a small dot. This is often called a 'decimal point'.
It changes that magnitutde of a number quite considerably.
They are quite easy to miss when reading quickly though.

| did we win in the 1980s i know we lost in the mud in the cup which was gutting @ the time because we are a ready made underdog so getting beat by leigh who @ the time were 1st divison was a kick in the teeth cos we were favourites then started our rivalry imo.........
[sizeThat and the massive kickoff in town later that night might have had somthing to do with it[size

Yep was 1989. First time i ever watched Salford that. Use to watch the TV games and remember being surprised and excited we had a team near by when it came on. Think we drew 8-8 IIRC?
My mum took me to the next home game and thus began my love affair with Salford Rugby.

I'm sure we won the game I'm thinking of. The days of Clive Tyldesley doing the commentary.
