Celebrating 25 years service to the Rugby League Community! |
| Quote: Red Preacher "Warrington, I like it. Culturally it benefits and suffers from it's hybrid-like creation, as a result of the unfairly named 'slum clearances' and overspill operations of the late 50's, 60's and 70's. Of course, this results in relative superficiality and identity... I suppose thie epitomy of this would be the adage 'if it wasn't for IKEA and Warrington RL, we wouldn't know it was there.' Like most successful RL towns, this is precisely why they're respective RL team's are successful. Besides RL, there's little else to get passionate about. Now, in Salford, we have a rich and abundant culture. Profound, diverse and until recently, concealed under the shadow of Manchester. Many reports have Salford, a victim of the demise of industrialism, as a resurgent and significant player. The recent successes at the Quays will hopefully continue to influence other regeneration projects in Ordsall and both Broughton's. Projects that have partly resulted in me returning to the city after 15 years in exile in a sleepy village in the pennines. Hey, I could wax lyrical about how good Salford is all day but for fear of being dragged into a debate over whether Russell Watson or Kerry Katona has contributed more to music that'll undoubtedly unfold at some point, I'll leave it at that. Like I say, I like Warrington but I'll happily stick with my slums although I suspect they're just a tad better than some misleaders would have you believe. On another note, we should really have a look at the Wire's playing paradigm because that was one hell of a team I saw yesterday. 21st century RL played to a very decent standard.'" It's amazing a mid-twentieth century hybrid town can provide the birthplace of one of the most famous authors in the world in the early 1800s.

Quote: Paul2812 "Such a bad loser. Don't know why though, you should be used to it by now. Your team are simply awful. How anyone that supports a team from the ghetto can attempt to insult any other fans is brilliant. Are you deliberately trying to be ironic by mentioning benefits and hub caps ? I'm quite confident in saying the crime rate & number of people claiming benefits in Salford is up their with the most depressed areas in the UK. FYI, you live in the slums.'" I seriously hope your a child, no I seriously do.

Yes, I'm well aware that Warrington has a history pre-1968. But in the silly 'my willy's bigger than you willy' debate that was beginning to unfold, a little reflection was required. Just to reiterate, I LIKE WARRINGTON. IT JUST DOESN'T COMPARE WITH SALFORD ON SO MANY LEVELS. All the best for the season and hopefully we can model our club on your successes and add another string to our diverse bow.

Quote: Yed™ "Salford has one tiny little area in the Quays that is nice and upmarket, the rest is how you expect the inner city housing to be.'" Ever been to or heard of Worsley? Even if your ridiculous statement WERE true, its still a hundred times removed from anywhere in Warrington.

Quote: Yed™ "Would you honestly walk around Hankinson way in the evening and think "yes, this is the place i want to bring up my kids" ?.'" Because of course the entire city, bar a small part of the Quays, is just like Hankinson Way.

Quote: Yed™ "To be fair to you i am not familiar with the boundaries of Salford/Manchester so i probably end up mixing up areas but i always think of Weaste, Ordsall and Pendleton and i'll be honest with you i wouldn't choose to live there.'" So if you're really being honest? Admit you don't have a clue about any of them or did your grandads mothers sisters aunties daughter-in-laws best mates tell you they had had a day trip there once upon a time and they had spoke to someone who had lived there for 60 years? FWIW I wouldn't choose to live in New York, Tokyo or Beijing
