| Just out of interest who nominated these players and who are the four people making up the committee? For all I/ we know they could the four most fanatical members of the Malcolm Alker fan club. Personally I think a Hall of Fame should be strictly limited to those who have actually contributed success (Major Silverware) to the club rather than players who either averaged 40 tackles a game or was a decent goal kicker. Without being disrespectful I don't think you can attribute the word 'fame' to either of them.

| So,in conclusion ,if the good Doctor or his acolytes read this forum then you've already decided on Alker and so be it.
But,please now concentrate on genuine greats ,to start with , and they must come from the era when we were successful rather than recent fans favourites.
And find Ken Gill !

| Some people have very short memories. Malcolm Alker quite rightly deserves his place within the Salford Reds hall of fame and shouldn't be penalised against the likes of Watkins and Gill because he played in many substandard teams, filled with many substandard players.
A Salford legend who has more than earnt this accolade with his effort and level of consistent and excellent performances in a red shirt over a long period of time.

I whole heartidly agree, but for anyone to suggest Alker doesnt constitute the label as a Salford legend because he did not contribute to any major success (ala Watkins, Gill, Fielding, Charlton etc) is ridiculous.

OK,but to suggest he qualifies as a legend notwithstanding Jacksonville and his book , is a stretch.
Anyway,as I said earlier,it appears to be done now so lets just accept and support it

| Rock on Bonita. If we put past players in a Hall of Fame then youngsters will look up to them. Consequently players who behave in a questionable manner should NOT be lauded. I also feel, as already stated, that we should look back in the first instance and then consider recently retired players. PLEASE read Graham Morris' book 100 Salford Greats( available from the cheap book shop in Preston for 99p) before making any decisions. As a supporter for almost 58 years there are many more appropriate for the Hall of Fame than Malcolm Alker!!!!! I would be very disappointed if a decision has already been made.

| as a fan of over 44 years, Alker is not in the legends league
most of 74 & 76 team are
the great legends of the 30's team
plus players of 60's, 80's and 90's
Peter Smithurst
Steve Gibson
Paul Forber
Mark Lee
just a few real Salford players

| Sadly, unless we have a hundred legends the four mentioned are not. Pleade consider Jimmy Lomas, Jack Feetham, Gus Risman, Harold Osbaldestin, Maurice Richards( best winger I have ever seen ) and of course the man who changed everything for the club in the 60s/70s David Watkins.
BEFORE any decisions are be made the qualifying criteria should be established. We cannot be seen to favour ANY era nor canvassq for our favourites. PLEASE LET US BE OBJECTIVE IN THE SELECTION.

If the club was recognising loyal clubmen who gave good service over several years I wouldn't have a problem with it but we are discussing "Hall of Fame" here. And just because we haven't had any genuine candidates in the past 40 years shouldn't mean we just award it wrongly to some fans favourites that are still fresh in the mind.

B/Red, I have wrote to Ken Gill on a couple of occasions without any success of a reply to try & get him to visit. Will possibly try again but don't hold your breath.

It would be interesting to know what you and others think constitutes the criteria to be nominated/inducted into the hall of fame? For me Alker was easily and consistently our best player for over 10 years (granted in some of the worst teams in the clubs history), racking up numerous personal awards as well as achieving county and international caps. He was offered numerous contracts from other Super League and NRL clubs (due to the level of his performances might I add) but remained with Salford.
Risman, Watkins, Gill etc all deserve to be in the and will undoubtedly be inducted but for me Malc deserves his place too.
