| Quote: GT "I've hard people singing "if you all hate scousers clap your hands" with pure venom. Including Wigan fans. I've heard Wigan fans, amongst others, come to the Willows and sing about "Salford Scum", "town full of druggies", "Salford twinned with Basra" and so on. Does that mean people actually meant all of that?
What about the widely sung "there's a Tavern in the town, and we're gonna burn it down..." Is anyone actually going to burn a pub down? No, they're not. And to suggest they actually would is ludicrous.
What about shooting red robins? I bet you've sung that at some point. Would you actually shoot a red robin? Or anyone/thing connecting with Hull KR? No, you wouldn't. And neither would anyone else who's ever sung it.
The whole idea of the "die die Coley" chant is to get a reaction. To get under his skin. To put him off his game and get him to snap. Unfortunately it's not worked and he's had two blinders against us. Next week we need to ignore him and get behind the team - that'd wind him up more than giving him attention.
It's a chant sung in the heat of the moment at a sporting event. If anyone actually takes it seriously then they need their head testing. Still, it's no surprise that it's Wigan fans getting irate about it. After all, they're the greatest in RL and would never sing anything hate-filled about anyone.
Although, admittedly, there were better songs that could've been used than that. "Great Britain's Waterboy", as mentioned, was one. Would've been a lot funnier, but never mind.'"
well said G.T

| I wish the sort of fans that make these chants spent even a portion of that energy trying to help our team.
Did the chant wind Coley up? did it impact on his game? No it probably helps him play, as I said on another post he will have about 4 good games. 2 of those against us.
He left us a season and half ago time to let it go guys.

World Class post Ginge, Songs and chants at sporting events are used to inspire your team or break your opposition to get a result, nobody wants anyone to die, your just looking for an advantage.
Remember the "Gaarrryyy......Garrryyyy" chants at Connolly complete with actions reaily upset his game, it just depends on the player, "Dodgy Hodgy" is another one get in his head and he'll cock it up against you and play out of his skin for you.
Some players it inspires remember "Alan hunte is a rugby genius", fairytale zero to hero there and he is still there now producing our talented youngsters, bet them dark days inspired him on.
[ Quote: GT "quoteAs soon as the Coley songs came out I knew the game was over for us. Our moment had passed and Wigan were on their way to cementing their spot in the semi's.'"
Coley imo played a blinder here, wigan had just edge ahead in the arm wrestle, the salford players looked a bit dejected and needed lifting, i wouldnt have been surprised if a message had been sent out for coley to do what he did. We saw our cup final dreams slipping away coley laughing and joking reacts to our "taunting", we go nuts and forget to get behind the team, the players here it, think the games gone, by the time we've all calm down wigan have scored twice more and the salford players are looking for the hooter.
Abusing coley inspires him, he destroyed us at the willows and as soon as we got on his back he played out of his skin again, Coley wants to play at the highest level he can like any profesional sportsperson, he used us like he used swinton to get to where he is now.
when he retires he'll probably want to be referred to as "ex-wigan warrior and Great Britain International Andy Coley", it will give him a walm glow inside.
Reality is he wasnt a great britain international, he was a bit part player on massive wages in a poor wigan side who only played when somebody gave him abuse, mostly against salford, thats a message for anyone thinking about moving on to bigger and better things because if your not going to saints or leeds to be a main player it might not be better, you might be richer but happy not sure.
I agree with Divaolla Rossi we should have given him the same treatment when he played (well he didnt did he) for us in 2007, might have played a bit then.

| Quote: H0LTY "yes you are right he did turn down offers at that time, the thing is, many salford fans havent got two bad words to say about michael korkidas or david hodgson who left the club with a bit of dignity and played for us untill the end of the season and still put the effort in.
i have no problems with any player signin a contract with another club to better their career but when you sign a contract with another club and the first thing your own club knows about it is a press release from the other club ( ie wigan) saying such a player has signed a 2 year contract with them. i think you could understand our anger
plus when you see coley playing like he did tonight and indeed the time at the willows it makes you think why didnt he play like that for us in 2007
in his time coley was a great servent to our club but the way he left us was a complete insult to us, the fans, the club, and the game and for this HE DESERVES TO DIE A SLOW AND PAINFULL DEATH
WE'LL BE WALKING ROUND THE WILLOWS WITH HIS HEAD (ON A STICK)'"
How can this be justified? I dont care which player this sort of thing is said about, its truly shameful.

| In response to this thread I was extremely embarrassed to be a Salford Supporter on Friday night. These chants are not called for and as we've seen recently, players die on the pitch and I hope for all your sakes who sing this song it never happens. It is not in the slightest bit funny or big it just shows how disgusting you are. I left about 5 minutes before the end of the game but it was not due to the scoreline it was due to the disgraceful behaviour of our fans. Unfortunately it wasn't just a couple either, there were lots of fans joining in. I would like to think that these people would be mortified over their actions but they won't be. It would be more beneficial to put energy into singing for our players. Coley left us to increase his chances in the world of Rugby League and perhaps for money. He's not the first and won't be the last.

Aaaaarrrggghhh.... Does nobody listen around here ?
Like I said (and many others) .... not wanting to justify the singing.... it's not about him leaving. It's about the manner that he did it. Andy Coley gave us some good years, and had he left having put his heart and sole into that last year then I'm sure nobody would have stood in his way. It is totally understandable that he wanted to improve his chances and earn more money.... so did David Hodgson and nobody begrudged him that opportunity... why ?... he played up to the last game with dignity and gave his all in attempting to keep us in SL. Michael Korkidas... didn't want to leave... wasn't the best forward we have ever had (certainly not the worst)... he worked tirelessly and gave everything for the cause. He walked around the pitch at the end of the last game thanking everybody and signing autographs... even though we all knew he was leaving... people wanted to thank him for his efforts...and I can bet he gets one hell of a reception on his return to The Willows.
Andy Coley did nothing of the sort and myself and many others believe 100% that he contributed massively to our relegation that year... it made it worse because we all knew he had it in him and he wasn't prepared to put it in to help the club that gave him his break. Had he done that he would have walked away with credit and returned to The Willows with the Salford fans very much grateful for his service rather than with a sour taste in our mouths. We are not bad supporters and will always give credit where it's due regardless of whether they are playing for us or another team.
I don't expect supporters want Andy Coley to die... far from it...I don't want his career to be cut short... I just want to see him suffer on the pitch with poor performances (especially against us) and for him to realise how much he disappointed so many of us with a lack of heart and passion... and a disrespect for a chairman who deserves nothing but heart, soul and pride in the shirt.... that was the very least he could do.
