| What may work for the Crusaders may not apply to Salford. A big name Welsh rugby union is instantly recognisable to the Welsh public. It will create lots of publicity in the media and attract new supporters.
Who would the Salford (and Greater Manchester) public view as a big name signing? If we are talking about attracting fans to our games who have only a passing interest in Salford then it has to be a high profile England RU player and there is no way we could afford the wages and even less possibility that he will prove to be value for money. We would be talking about someone like Johnny Wilkinson. He wouldnt make a massive difference to the teams performance and interest would soon die down if we continued to lose games!
The Crusaders squad this season has been underestimated. There are some quality Australians in their and they have a very good squad. Gareth Thomas generates more interest and provides more of a Welsh feel in addition to their young squad players.

| The only big name person JW should have brought in was a new coach and assistant.
A big name player would not help because McRae would drag him down to his method of playing
The dour rugby the team play now is driving the fans away.
We are floundering at the base of RL without a foreseeable future.
All hopes seem to rest on the new stadium but that wont save us if we continue to get 3K crowds and continue to lose.
JW should have had the guts to get rid of our coaching staff when he had the chance in the winter.

| There are no famous RL players these days so there's nobody we could sign. Even if we signed Billy Slater or Greg Inglis most people in Salford would have no idea who they are.

Yes, it would have to be a household rugby union player and they dont come cheap! This highlights the struggle we have as a club in that the Crusaders have more viable options to generate interest. We would get an extra couple of thousand if we had Man Utd Under 10's playing as a curtain raiser or if we put Gary Neville on the wing for a super league game. In fact that would pull in the crowds, watch Neville get smashed

| It's an expensive publicity stunt that grabs a few headlines but won't bring big numbers through the turnstiles in the medium to long term.
We don't have the money to fund such a signing and even if we did, I wouldn't trust us to sign anyone other than a money grabbing crock.

| Big name signing will not work, winning matches might help along with some positive marketing of the club! Salford who?

| As I said in another thread if we'd have had a quality old head type scrum half last week against Bradford I think we'd have had a chance of winning. I am not as up on the NRL as I was pre tinker TV but would think there has to be a 34/35 yr old quality Aussie for a 2 yr contract who can win us some games and help Ratchford develop into the player we all have the sneeking suspision we think he will be. If that isnt possible I would still like to see a Cartwrightesque type siging in the front row.

Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

Mozza?
That might get the crowds (or at least the interest levels) up.
Not a chance in hell that it'd happen though.

| A big name signing would fail because we don't have the tactics to exploit any talent. It would be the same boring gameplay and the highlight of game would be the countdown clock finally reaching 0.
The only big name signing that would improve things would be a top coach and that would have to be an Aussie as there are no Brits that fit the bill.

| I see where your coming from on this as I have myself wondered why we have possibly missed out on some chance signing.
Gareth Raynor being one although not a crowd puller
But if were mentioning name's could you imagine what the crowd would be like for a signing like jonah Lomu who is playing 3rd tier union in france

That's the kind of player I was trying to come up with. Not many around though.
Reckon Jonah would fancy signing for us in the RU off season?
Can't see him doing anything for us on the field, but could be a good publicity stunt?! (a la Dwain Chambers)

Why could he not do anything on the field ? he's only 34 same age as Talau
and playing a girls game so he wont be carrying any injurys
Someone like that could be massive for the club
