I agree with MR everyone bangs on about the "glory days" of the quality street gang ect but the fact its was friday night nobody seems to mention, i wasnt there i dont know how it worked, i surpose in the 70s less people had cars so rush hour wouldnt take as long that might have had an effect.
Im following / stalking the stadium on twitter and it seems they might be planning some kind of child friendy activities / fun days outside the ground before the game, no times have been mentioned so i have no details but if i was running it id be looking at start about 5:30 finish about 7.30 for the kids, they will be buzzing, gets everyone to the stadium early, have tea from a burger van (friday treat) job is a good one.
Rush hours starts early on a friday so by 6 it might be our traffic which might be the problem (which is a good problem if people are queing to get in)
Has anyone drove down that way around 7 oclock on a friday to see what its like on liverpool road/eccles?

| well there goes no matches for me again, next season,
i just cant make fri nites, dont finish till 6.30 if i am in the country,
its bad enough on a sun down the A6 into stockporttakes me 1.30 mins to salford from where i live,
friday nite on the M60 from stockport to salford is just a no go, take it from me and im a coach driver, and god help the away fans traveling from yorkshire, they have got no chance down the M62 then onto the M60,
i just do not know what is wrong with sun afternoon, for a so called family club, {u must be joking}
seems to me the club is doing a lot of talking < ie we will lsiten to what the fans say, then totally ignore what they say , and do hat we want and sod the fans, we can get more moneyfrom so called corprate crap.
what happened to the survey on what we want for match days etc,
also reading other posts, on the new ground , i read the only standing at the new ground will be behind the sticks, correct me if im wrong, its been a long time since the plans were anounced for the ground, just a few years??????????
But was the standing section, not going to be opposite the hotel at the side of the ground, ie , sort of where the shed is now, and if i remember right as a season ticket holder a few years ago, i was offered a season ticket for the standing section of the ground,
but once again the club have changed things again,
read a few posts about the new ground, and i think we have seen the demise of the shed as it is now, and unless the shed dont buy season tickets and all STAND behind the sticks as one , there will be no vocal support in the new ground as there was at the willows,
not only that if the salford fans do decide to BOYCOTT the seating areas, and decide to stand behind the sticks, where are the away fans going to go >>?????????
but most of all playing fri nite is a very bad idea for home and away fans unless u live within walking or local bus distance.
apart from that good luck for next season
i may make a match,

| The Club is missing out on the most important thing this Club needs and that's a significant gate increase. Friday nights will be dead as far as fans and atmosphere go. That's just common sense. I also understand the reasons why the Club need to keep Friday nights from a financial perspective. Attracting back or new support needs a long-term plan and I realise that a lot of that will piggy-back any on-field success. The trouble is, we need a significant increase in crowds as identified by the RFL. The move to the new ground was the perfect opportunity to push really hard on the Family/New/Returning fans and I feel that this simply will not happen on Fridays.
It feels like two fingers to the fans and shows little concern for anything other than the corporate pound. Maybe that is just reality these days but it feels grubby and uncomfortable to me seeing the game I love getting turned into another bland corporate entity.
If the team doesn't hit the ground running next season and build on what will initially be decent crowds due to the curious/newness factor, I fear that we will be playing in a mausoleum by midway through the season.
It's a big gamble by the Club and I have a feeling it will not pay off.

| Just been for a bit of a ride and at 14:00 there was significantly more traffic on the M60 near the A57 junction heading towards the Trafford Centre than there was at 19:00 on Friday, yet more proof that this tripe about traffic on the M60 being worse on a Friday than on a Sunday.
Think we all need to give the club the benefit of the doubt until we see what they have lined up for the new stadium, as is said above child friendly activities would be a good start.
They have training pitches you would hope that they utilise them, think when they had the bands on after the final game that was a good idea, there's nothing I can see stopping them useing the artifical pitches for a bit of pre match music or skills coaching from some of the players not taking part in the game.

| A big mistake this by the club. A new stadium represented the ideal chance to attract fans back along with new ones. Friday nights give no opportunity for people to develop a match day experience. It really is a case of home from work, bite to eat and out. On a Sunday people may have had made a day off it, utilising the new catering facilties and with the right pre-match entertainment and with plenty of time before and after to travel(and of course the most important thing - the right product on the pitch) it represents a chance to build crowds. As it is now the first home game will be in the dark on a doubtless cold February night. Hardly the stuff to introduce and entice fans to the new ground.
It's been interesting to note on here, even from die hard fans, the doubts and concerns about how to get to the new ground, where to park etc. If that is from die hard fans how will casual fans be thinking? The club have sold themselves the myth that people stopped coming to the Willows because it was old and the area in which it was in. That myth was debunked by the Catalans game. People will watch anywhere if the price is right and there is a reason to go. Due to the performances in recent years people have not had that reason. They now think people will flock to the new stadium. Unless performances are right they will not. The ground also lacks the one thing the Willows had - accessibility.
I myself am unsure whether to commit to a season ticket next year now it is Friday's. At the Willows I could be there in fifteen minutes and parked up and home within 30 mins of the game finishing. I cannot see that being the case now.
Has to be Sunday for me. It's alright going on about sponsors etc but where will the sponsors be if the club don't get the gates they hope for and it leads to losing the licence and a place in the Championship?

| I fully understand why Sunday would be better for people and maybe it would attract a few more away fans but i honestly don't think there would be to much difference in the attendances playing Friday nights. I live in peel green and very rarely experience any traffic problems on Friday nights, the roundabout at brook house will cause a bit of congestion but i don't think it will be as bad as some people are making out. I have a few mates in the area who "say" they are going to go next season on a Friday as its something to do rather than sitting in the star on Liverpool road as they currently do. That game gets played on a Sunday and they wouldn't go, it's all swings and roundabouts for every one person that cant make a Friday game there will be one person that wouldn't go on the Sunday.
I may be wrong but barring the Catalan game i would hazard a guess that attendance when we play on a Sunday haven't been that much better than when we play on a Friday. Also if United play at home on a Sunday that will take a couple of thousand of the radar. It also adds extra traffic around the Trafford area and motorway.
It's got it's ups, it's got it downs, no pleasing everyone im afraid.
Lets just see how it goes but i don't think the attendances we would get on a Sunday would make up for the money we would generate on a Friday by the corporate.

| I will attend whether Friday of Sunday & I know from our loyal band of supporters it is very mixed between playing Friday night or Sunday. We are though forgetting one important factor it is not us we are trying to attract, we are already committed.
We need new fans & playing on a Friday will reduce the away fans travelling from Yorkshire & all but Huddersfield have a good away support.
We want to attract families to the club, playing Friday night will not help the cause,
I believe we are missing a big opportunity in the new ground, we are missing a golden marketing opportunity, I don't think a wet & cold February/March Friday evening will do much for attracting new families.

| I'm a wakey supporter and always travel over to to watch the Salford games. The M62 early evening's on Friday can be horrendous. I travel back at 5p.m. from J26 (Bradford) to J31 Normanton then set off back with family/friends westbound. For the next 2 years there are roadworks between J30-J25 which will make it even more difficult to arrive to Friday night games on time. Much prefer Sunday afternoon games.

That is correct about the roadworks, you can kiss goodbye to away fans north of Huddersfield on a Friday.Your council needs its investment back, their prices will sky rocket in future seasons. I can see Sale renting it in the near future and they play Friday aswell. The prices your council are charging for renting must be over the top for Swinton to play at Leigh,Wigan council must have given Swinton a lot better deal.

This is the important bit, the whole ground move will be a success or failure though our commitment to make it work, both the club, the players and our "lapse" fans have all used the willows as an excuse not to go/perform, this is no more so there is no more excuses in my book.
We as a club have taken a leap of faith out of the shadows, and for once I applaud their bravery, we are always asking about the club showing some ambition, we could have easily stayed @ the willows 3 years down the line got kicked out the superleague and we experience a slow painful death its plain and simple as that in my book.
This move is the biggest thing our club has ever done, for once from top to bottom the pressure is on to perform be that on the field, in the shop or some community officer.
Some people will be found out, some people will Excel its the way the world works.
The traffic is going to be a big issue, I don't feel tea time traffic will be a problem the problem will be us the fans getting to the stadium. the club and the stadium have come up with a plan to get everyone in and out quick and safe, I suspect there will be queues both in and out but the road is one way in and one way out unlike the willows which was a so many entrances and exits you could disappear into the night 10 mins after full time and not hit any traffic.
I just hope us the fans create a positive buzz about the new place bring back the old fans who have gone by the wayside and bring the new fans in who were put off by the willows and the surrounding area, its in our hands we are the people who will make this a success or failure not the about of traffic there is, what day we play or how many away fans Rock up.

| To be honest it's not the Willows that's been the excuse it's watching the constant drivel on the field season after season, coupled with the fact that the club have seemed totally unprofessional in everything they have done.
I for one hope the new stadium is the Dawn of a new era for Salford RLFC and I do think there will be an initial significant interest at the new stadium I hope this can be sustained by performances and results.

An interesting point to consider - maybe we are choosing Friday to get Friday's set aside for us as it is the more popular corporate choice
Should they also become a tenant of the stadium, Sale will then have to work around that and change days if there's any fixture clash

We are just tennants, we wont have any say on how the stadium works and what plans it has to make it a popular venue for supporters both old / new / visitors, so our "unprofessionalism" which does rear its ugly head both on and off the field at times will be soley concentrated on what is most important....the rugby and promoting the rugby in the area, hopefully without the distractions of running the ground and trying to improve the match day experience the club can channel its energies into the right areas to make our move a roaring success.
