Quote: Michigan red "Bailey is for me an identikit player to Nero and I can't get enthused about him either. If we have to have one of them make it that. Keep saying it but for me Neal (or is it Neil) is more of a 2nd rower than a prop for the time being and looks to have all the attributes to be a class act for many years to come.'"

I agree - Given the other quota players we've been linked with, Bailey would be somewhat underwhelming for me.

Every time I've seen Neal play, I've thought he would be better suited in the 2nd row.

I don't mean to appear disrespectful (or kick off an argument) but you really need to take a reality check. Unfortunately we are not currently a club that can have their pick of any player we choose. I would imagine it's a hard sell getting players to join us and I'd imagine we get several 'thanks but no thanks' replies when we approach players. Personally I'd be delighted with both players because in my view they are both good pro's and better than those leaving.

I'll fooking tw@ you you icon_wink.gif

To be fair if Bailey were playing at say a Cas or Wakey we wouldn't be interested as I think the fact he is playing for Wigan gives him kudos he isn't really deserving off. I actually agree with you in that we need a reality check, the reality for me is that Bailey will command a high wage that I'm 100% certain we could utilise on someone who would bring more to the party.

But would these players be commanding the same high wages they currently get at Bradford and Wigan? I'd imagine they are at a stage in their careers when they have to take a cut. As for Bailey and the Wigan kudos comment . .didn't Bailey play for Australia and New South Wales before joining Wigan?

Someone mentioned being underwhelmed, you said you are not enthused, who do you honestly expect us to be able to sign right now? Would the prospect of playing for Wigan Athletic been of interest to Ronaldo?

He played centre for Australia over Matt Gidley a few years back, hes a great proffesional and wouldnt turn upto a game with the cant be bothered attitude like alot of players do, form what I hear he helps the youngsters at Wigan so if he makes Luke Adamson into the class of Joel Tomkins hes worth every penny imo

My point is that Nero and Bailey for me are not players I would have had on any wish list (be it a fantasy one or a reality one). think you'll find Tallau came with great pedigree but look at the drain on the salary cap he has been for a couple of years. I'd be looking more at Pryce from Wigan and Yeaman or Turner (then at least the Judas thread would have a neat end to it).
The fact that Bailey helps out with the youngsters is obviously a good thing but we surely have someone in Mal Alker on the coaching staff that anyone even remotely involved with Salford will look up to and hold in the greatest reverence, also think that the Genius is doing a bang on job and not needing that much help.

And added thought I've just had, with the opening round of SL games next season being held in Cardiff why not look at finding a good quality Welsh RU back to bring in, would be wonderful press to add to the current stellar stuff were currently getting. Would also take focus away from the Crusaders playing down there and maybe win us some good local support. Let's face it we have half decent record of Welsh RU backs coming to Salford why not look at continuing that?

Do you honestly think that we could attract a player like Yeaman? He's an International player who plays for his home town club, a bigger club than us and currently 4th in the league. Hopefully when we are in the new stadium things could be different and we may be in a stronger position to attract players that you and others will be more enthused about .

I remember hearing a story a few years back when Harrison was coach. Apparently Salford offered Jamie Peacock a lot more money than Leeds when he was about to leave Bradford and his reply was ' I'm very flattered but I want to join a club that can challenge for trophies every year'

Can you imagine if we had an Australian half back on our books who looked like a truly world class player, can you imagine the clubs who would have been chasing his signature. No that's just a fairytale and would never happen to a club like Salford. I think it's naive to think that we offered more money than Leeds, they might have offered as big a contract but the add on's and 'sundries' would amount for a much hi9gher annual income that we could possibly live with.

As for Yeaman you never know (queue some Hull fan who knows him chirping up) there is nothing to be lost by making an approach like that.

Exactly, that was the point I was making. Add On's/Sundries are a share of the prize money and that's another factor that makes it harder for a club like us to attract the top players.

Ok i'll put it another way 'sundry sundries'. The same way that Melbou (sorry yet again i've done that) Warrington are widely speculated to pay people these various 'sundries'.

Not Sundries , think the colloquial term is 'image rights '

It was mentioned in today's advertiser that the Bailey, feka and Gleeson signings will be our last! So this would only leave us with one hooker! Two if you include Owen, so maybe Matty smith might be playing hooker next year instead of in the halves

Would be disappointing if this is the case, i really wouldn't get Bailey, we have Parker, Sidlow, Adamson who can play second row, what happens if Holdsworth gets injured say & Latu is injured that game to. We need another Half back / Hooker!
