but not for long with Sky and the clubs trying to take it away from the working classes and make each game an "event" on the calendar, with a higher percentage of corporate seats being the norm for new build.

At Arsenal on Tuesday I was surrounded by Corporates who had no idea about the team, songs etc but just had paid the top dollar and so got a ticket.
I would never want RL to go that way and do not think it will, but I am ripped off enough with football without Red Hall wanting me to spend more of my hard earned money on a meaningless trip to Scotland.
And no I do not mean the ticket prices which were good, but I mean the hotel, petrol, food and other various costs which come with a trip like this.
The only people who benefitted from this from what I can see are the Bars and Hotels in Edinburgh.
I have not heard one person say "watching the games was a great and well worth it" Its been... all the bars were good, Edinburgh good etc
So as an advert for Scottish Tourism it appears to have done very well for itself.
Next year Afganistan icon_wink.gif

That's not a good thing, believe me.

And I can't believe people are advocating fancy dress at a sporting event. Well, if you think people dressing up like tw*ts is all part of the enjoyment then Godspeed. Personally I think it shows that the sanity of this country is slowly disappearing.

I don't think they made that much out of the event but they are relying on the same core 60000 going who go to wembley and Old trafford to turn up. I would have like to go but can't afford to go to all these games - its that simple. The RL want to make the game more accessible but only seem to be succeeding in making it less so.

Quote: Hillbilly_Red "Thanks to those Reds sat near me who made the weekend so enjoyable.
I'm sure you know that you can experience that @ The Willows...........and certainly more often than once a year
Thanks to all RL fans for showing how the Rugby League family works.
Go on then....how does it "work"
Thanks to Edinburgh - a fine town with excellent pubs.
I think you'll find that it's actually a city
Thanks to RL - trying out experiments to show what we have to offer.
They keep trying, and the status quo remains
A success as we moved away from the M62 (heresy) and showed entertaining games (anathema) featuring colourful fans enjoying themselves (blasphemy) in a national venue (evil). And your point is
I didn't go, cos I didn't fancy it. The idea of watching 7 RL games within the space of 36 hours, whilst sat on my bum in a quarter full stadium, paying over the odds for crap ale and poor food just doesn't appeal. I've seen plenty of fantastic cities across the world, and whilst I have yet to sample Edinburgh, I'm sure it is one of the best. However, trying to soak up the atmosphere whilst mingling with 60k other RL fans isn't my idea of a city break.

And as for SKY's coverage........well there was hardly anything of Edinburgh shown, or how the fans were enjoying themselves outside the stadium.

A failure, and a waste of time................... in my opinion.

I've got to notice that the general feeling is posotive on the other bords (not entirely but generaly).

Seems a bit strange to me that Salford fans made one of the poorest showings compared to other clubs and they seem to be the ones that didn't enojoy it as much? I wonder if people would have enjoyed it more if there were a few more reds there?

Also they want your feedback to make the event better next year.. I think this is the link (i stole if off the cas board)

I enjoyed it next time i'm going to pick a hotel a bit closer dunfermline was a bit far away, hotel was ace though town was brill lots of little bars, I thought the stadium was a bit steep to get to your seat, I nearly fell back down the stairs twice, and when the game started from where i was sat the stadium looked empty, (west 20) thought chegggers was a tit where was the entertainment, all i saw was a couple of dancers at the begining and some idiot doing back flips, and when the fire works went off I nearly crapped my self god they were high, overall it was ok really I wont be getting seats in the west stand next year and I will be getting a hotel in edinburgh it seems I missed out on a lot of stuff, although I have been to edinburgh a few times in the past, but I did go in the pub before the match outside the stadium, the one with the barby and the bagpipe player, the beer was very expensive just like in the stadium , but the atmosfear was great, looking forward to next year will make a weekend of it next time and bring the familiy. icon_smile.gif

That is possibly because Salford fans have other interests in their lives than RL

Quote: "Seems a bit strange to me that Salford fans made one of the poorest showings compared to other clubs and they seem to be the ones that didn't enojoy it as much? '"

We dont take many away anyway so Edinburgh was definitely a step too far. As for enjoyment we got beat,it was a half empty stadium, it was probably expensive should I carry on ?

To be fair it seems strange that you will pay £1000 for a football season ticket (including cup games) and £40+ for away games to be 'surrounded by corporates' yet will complain at £7.50 to watch Salford in Edinburgh.

Each to their own though. icon_wink.gif

Each to their own though. And if you read the rest of the post you will see this is why I will and cannot pay out any more for sports events.
I choose United, Salford in Perpingan a Holiday abroad and the odd European trip with United.

Each to their own as you say.
