Au contraire EB. Numerous Earls of Derby have been heavily involved with horse racing (the Epsom Derby is named after Lord Derby, 17th Earl) and rugby league.

Correct me if I'm wrong Gaz, but the Wigan versus Saints derby match is the only official derby contest other than the Epsom derby?

So says Wikipedia but I couldn’t be certain on that. The rlFrench rugby league cuprl is also named after Lord Derby, who donated the trophy.

He was the MP for Wigan (Westhoughton) from 1892–1906. I wonder if that had something to do with it?
