| Quote: LincolnDEVILSFan "Considering the good doctor has a management consultancy, I'm sure he & Noble are more than capable of assessing the level of risk Duggan poses. There are very few players of his quality available, and if he wants to get back on the straight and narrow we may have to take that risk. If Morley wants to come for salary that reflects the amount of minutes he's capable of playing, the pride of playing for the team he supported as boy could work in our favour and bring in some extra local support.
I still believe we need to beat Warrington to the punch and get Darryl Clark. Other than that Frank Pritchard is out of contract, who would be immense in SL, and Graham might be a possibility, considering the bad press he got towards he end of last season.'"
1. One benefit of having a Coach of Nobles Past experience & knowledge of the game is he will be able to control the urge to splash out on ' ill judged ' signings , and one pleasing comment - small steps or big steps , but the right steps , the other good response to the questions raised at the press do was - he would only bring players in this season if they were the right players .
2. Re so called Marquee signings , Any Current NRL stars are basically a non starter , for the financial reasons explained in the conference , Jamie Soward , mentioned by Ed Farish earlier in the season as a ' player we were talking to' has just signed a 4 year deal with Penrith rlDragons star Jamie Soward to join Penrith Panthers in 2014rl.
The only player from NRL would be those with talent who have erred so much no other NRL club will touch them , or those who want to escape the intense scrutiny of NRL attention - aka Joel Monaghan at Warrington - Jamie lyons at St Helens went he went AWOL . their risk factor would be assessed against their impact if they get their act together.
So we still may have to risk 150-250K + for a bonefide but troubled ' Star ' and he may turn out to be a doughnut .

"Bad press"?? He bit someone. In the grand final. Hardly surprising really.
Despite that he would be a quite magnificent signing for any SL club never mind us.

| I still think we'll sign some top class NRL players.
Noble is mearly playing it down I think to keep everyone's guard down, otherwise why would he stay over in australia for so long? (Package holiday perhaps)

This gulf in pay between Superleague and the NRL/Rugby Union is very concerning.
The 'powers that be' are more concerned about the disparity of pay in our own competition than they are about the actual competition.
If this is allowed to continue the quality of rugby will suffer and the british game could return to the low attendance levels witnessed in the 1970's before Hull and Wigan lit the blue touch paper in the early 80's with big investment.

Granted, he did create that bad publicity for himself.
If the Aussie press makes life difficult for him, he could return to the UK. I seem to remember Morley had a hard time the disciplinary committee out there, some of his shots were high, but there were/are worse tackles that go unpunished.

| If he's got anything like the balls that Morley had he will put this behind him and become an even better player down there than he already is.

| Won't hide behind the fact I have no real desire to see your lot do well. Nor do I enjoy Koukash banging on about how hard done to you are every week.
However this is a great appointment for you guys and will no doubt at least make you more competitive (which for now is what our clubs need to be aiming for to get a stronger league).
You can't buy success in RL within a year or two it just doesn't happen (Wire took 6/7 years) yet in Noble you have a coach who is used to both improving results with sides he inherits and also building squads quickly to make big leaps from there.
Good to see a top British coach back in the top flight also!

Smith for McGoldrick is good business for both teams but sorry Morley for 2 years is wasteful unless part of it is being offset by making a community office or maybe start him doing his coaching badges.

| Morley, the signing, would be a far bigger deal than just his playing ability now.
A Salford lad who wants to play for Salford, what better message?
Wouldn't want anyone else at that stage of his career but,for me,it would be exactly the right thing to do.
He would be inspirational to others around the place, particularly the kids.

That's an excellent summation. I'd be surprised if it was on a two year deal though, maybe the remainder of this season and next.
Tim smith for Ryan McGoldrick seems good business, I just don't see what's in it for Wakefield, unless he's ooc at the end of this season and they've seen an opportunity to make some cash. Smith's motivation must be the chance to work with noble again, but I hope he doesn't push Fages out of the side. Thinking long term we should use this season to develop him, and really hit the ground running next year, but where does that leave Foran/Gaskell, etc. It's been mentioned, on here, Foran should be moved to LF, but a bulked up Gaskell might be a better option.

| Morley is all talk, he hasn't really wanted to play for us, just talks the talk. I wouldn't waste money from the cap on him. Sign his on as an ambassador but not a player.

A Salford lad wanting to play for Salford while still at the peak of his career would be a better message. The message that signing Morley sends out is that the Salford City Reds Twilight Home for Ageing Internationals is open for business again.
