when the snow lay round about
deep and crisp and even
brightly played the lads that night

Possibly.
That's the wording on Sky Sports.

| Sorry but i wasn't taking much interest at the time but what was the selection process before Nobby was chosen. Was he on a short list of applicants to be interviewed or was he recommended to the doctor. Its a genuine question and as others have said as more little snippets leak out it seems an increasingly bad decision. It seems to have been a wasted season because of it but Harris is saying all the right things and i think he's as good as any one for next season.

Something's changed then, because you can't stop thinking about us now.
One or two names were mentioned - including Tim Sheens and Peter Gentle - but it's hard to know whether they were ever really in the frame or were just press speculation. I suspect Nobby was recommended to Marwan by Nigel Wood, but there's no way of knowing for sure because, unlike Cas fans who seem to have an ESP link to all their players and to Marwan, we're not able to know what the thinking was.
Some of us were less than sure Nobby was the right man for the job. I was one of them, but I really wanted him to prove me wrong because he comes across as a damn' decent bloke. Sadly, it turns out he probably was the wrong man. Iestyn is now making the right noises, although he's still unproven.
Hopefully, all that's happened is that Marwan's evil master plan for total overlordship of the RL universe has been put back by 12 months.

| I believe the season was jeopardised the moment Noble was informed about Harris being appointed head coach. I think the Doc naively listened to a few underperforming players and acted on impulse. It’s extremely unlikely we would be in this predicament now had Noble still been in charge. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think we would be in the top 6 but I believe Noble would have galvanised 2-3 more wins.
I'm sure Marwan will now realise the mistake and will now regret not letting Noble see out his contract this year. The problem with changing a coach during the season is obvious and we have all seen the negative impact this has had on performances. I think the Doc should have rode it out and then paid the big bucks for an Aussie coach with a proven record of success. It’s nothing personal against Harris who may still come good but it still feels like too much of a gamble for a club with money and ambition.

Has to be one of the finest press statements I have ever seen from any British coach.I doff my cap to Mr Harris.
With regard to the previous head coach, the one who 'bigged up' the Red Devilution but seems to have taken on the [iomerta[/i I can only contrast him with the situation in the NRL where the recently sacked coach made a press release
which included the words -[i “I am grateful for the opportunities that the Dragons have provided me over all my years associated with the Club and would like to thank all involved,” he said in the release. “I’d like to wish Paul and the playing group all the very best.”[/i

Despite all of the opportunities afforded to Mr Noble, and with his press and media relationships Mr Harris has surpassed all of that with this particular press statement - his understanding for the supporters and Dr K is considerate and circumspect in the extreme and has not,and can not,be matched or mastered.

With respect Harris is judged on results and not what he says to the media. I interpret the Harris press statement as buying some time by attempting to win over some people by -
1. Expressing an understanding of how disappointed the owner and supporters must feel.
2. Complimenting the supporters on how vocal we are considering the smaller numbers of us.

Bearing in mind the way MK mishandled his exit, not necessarily the decision but the way it was done,I would have thought that Nobles silence is a result and reinforces the guys class

We don't know for sure this was the work of a few under-performing players. Maybe Marwan saw something in Iestyn that he didn't see in Nobby. We'll never know. And while it probably was an impulsive decision, it doesn't mean it was the wrong one. He spent a lot of time courting Nobby - to the point where it was like an RL bromance - but it still seems to have been the wrong choice. Only time will tell whether Iestyn is the right man.
There's no doubt the timing was poor and it was handled very badly, but I'm not sure things would have been any better had Nobby stayed. Where would the extra two or three wins have come from? He'd have been as hampered by our (self-inflicted) lack of pace as Iestyn is. I can see one advantage in acting quickly, and that is that it gives the new coach time to assemble the staff and squad he wants prior to next season. Again this is something we'll never know, but would we have gone for Kevin Locke and BJB had Nobby still been around? And had we waited until the end of the season to appoint a 'big name Aussie', would those two players still be available?

Maybe its something to do with the date i joined the forum, or do your red blinkers obstruct the margins of this page.

Totally disagree. Where are these extra wins you are talking about?
Nobles tiresome tactics had to change. He was inflexible & it has been quite clear that there were far too many cooks (coaches) spoiling the broth.
The dinosaur has gone & its time to move on.

Fair enough but this is my opinion. I think the extra wins could have came at Catalan, Hull KR at home and possibly Widnes at Magic. All these games were there for the taking and a more settled team I believe could have won these matches. I believe had Nobby stayed the team would have had more continuity and understanding of the coaches methods and tactics. Let's not forget how Noble coached the team to victory against all odds against Hull in the Challenge Cup. The point is when Harris was appointed he will inevitably have made numerous changes that will have caused some short-term problems with performance. The players were just coming to terms with Noble's methods and they then have to start afresh with a new direction under Harris.
As I said in an earlier post I have nothing against Harris. I hope he succeeds but results this year have been even more disappointing since Noble left the club. Only time will tell if he is the right choice but right now it still feels to me like a massive gamble. I also appreciate that we could presently be going through some short-term pain now for greater gain in the future. Ask me tonight after an epic win at Saints and I could have a different opinion.

I am not of the opinion that MK mishandled the exit.
MK spent a lot of money and what niggles me on that score,as well as other things, was the South Africa 'bonding' trip.
All 3 of the coaching staff,Noble,Hay and Donlan have now left the club.Jordan Davies appeared to have left as soon as the plane touched down back in England, and others left on dual reg/loan.
What plans can there now be for a build-up to the 2015 campaign? The cynics and doubters will be out in force.
How can the club sell itself to a hard-to-please public after the Noble era? Allied to the fragmentation of the sport where Super League has the few number of games where the video ref is used and as such can only prevent parents taking children to games due to the delay in decision making and 'trial by television'.( Even the round ball game delayed goal-line technology as the sport of Association Football was not the same at grass roots level as it was at the top end of the sport. - rugby league has bonus points in the Championship and the 2 lower leagues manages quite well without video refs.)
It doesn't augur well for future attendances.
While Noble didn't drive over my cat he also didn't appear to coach anything into a squad of players he inherited in 2013 or with the players he signed after being given a blank canvas and adequate resources by MK.
That sound your hear must be a gush of wind as Super League and NRL clubs rush to acquire his services.
