Of course Salford (note the spelling there) have to use money to attract players. That and convincing the player that the club have plans to use the money wisely. Let's not forget that bit. Any club in Salford's position would have to do the same, just as Warrington did in the recent past. Or do you think it was the prospect of playing for the home of Britain's first Ikea and Eileen Bilton that attracted Allan Langer to Wilderspool?

While I agree there are no stellar headline grabbers some of those youngsters have been signed up to long term deals where in previous years we would be just keeping them warm until the Vultures came swooping.

I'm happy we have Griffin, Emmett and Gaskell all offer something to the squad and in Gleeson his influence on the field is there for all to see. Not (like many others) convinced that McPherson on a new longer deal is the best business but I trust the powers that be to get his diagnosis for long term fitness right rather than as was previously the case site unseen buys.

Your missing the point. I'm saying Robinho joining a club like citeh raised their profile in a way Barry couldn't have done. Other top players would have had their perceptions changed about Man City seeing a player like Robinho at the club. I agree that Barry has been better value on the pitch but the Robinho signing served a different purpose.

If Salford have genuine ambition we will need a marquee signing that will raise the profile of the club and attract people down to Barton on a Friday night. We need a modern day Gus Risman or David Watkins to spark more local interest and support.
