Could Ginger McCain train a donkey to compete in the Grand National?

I'm not a Mcrae fan, but I don't see any reason why a coach has to run about on the park with the players. I'd highly doubt that Wayne Bennett does that with the team currently sat top of the NRL. I'm more concerned with our apparent inability to be "up" for games against the lower teams than how physical the coach gets in training.
At the end of the day, Mcrae has never done much in his career with "weak" teams (he's certainly no John Kear), but we're highly unlikely to pay him off so we've got to hope that he can get better results with a likely stronger squad next year.

I hate to be a pedant matey but Wayne Bennett most probably does have a run about with the players. He had a certain degree of notoriety for distance running with the players when at Brisbane. However, I'm pretty sure Craig Bellamy, Jack Gibson or Phil Gould (3 highly successful coaches in the NRL) run about with the players thus validating your point. I'd certainly love to find out why the players appear to have a different mentality for games such as today as opposed to games such as last week.

It's a very good point, but for a small number of games over the past two years we seem to lose virtually every 4 pointer by some margin! Could be some kind of sports psychology thing like Wire always losing to Saints!

Precisely. Without a shadow of doubt it comes down to the psyche of the players. If only the club could afford a shrink!

| Just hope we take a good following to Huddersfield, we usually always do and make a top atmosphere their, in recent memory we actually usually out sing Huddersfield, the best away game for me I think, just think today would of pushed a lot of people away from going Huddersfield.

| I'd go for Purtill the saints assistant coach, with Hunte as no 2. Has Alker agreed yet to be assistant? I hope not.

| Yesterday was embarrassing. There's no other word for it. We were a shambles. For me only Ray Cashmere came out of the game with any credit.
If any other group of paid employees performed as badly in their working environment and failed to reach reasonable targets that had been set for them then their Line Manager would be held to account. Shaun Macrae is responsible for that performance in the last analysis and he is answerable.
I know he didn't tell Gibson to kick the ball infield to nobody when it seems he only had to fall over the line; nor did he tell Alker to kick to their left winger when we had a twenty metre tap or tell Ratchford to put in a chip kick to two offside team mates on the last tackle on our twenty metre line, but he did give the team a game plan before the match presumably. What was it? We did not seem to be organised in any way. We had no options with ball in hand and our defensive line was static to allow them 10 metres at evey play the ball. In contrast, Brian Noble's team was organised, aware and gave the ball carrier options in attack at all times.
We may not have the most talented bunch of players in Super League as others have rightly pointed out, but they cannot be as bad as they seemed yesterday, and that's down to the coach.
I recall that a certain Karl Harrison was sacked after a similarly inept performance in France!

| When Patten signed last week I seem to recall there being news this week on further new signings can't see the club binning the coach when this is about to happen.
