Salary cap - you're havin a laugh.:

Awful idea. Thankfully it's still quite early in pre season so it will hopefully have been forgotten about by the time the season starts.

Its one of those things, I'm a nimby or in this case not in my stand (NIMS) I don't want to have some annoying kid with a whistle stood next to me.

If they want a band put them in the end bit of the West stand nr the north stand

But it doesn't have to be a band like that does it? How about a small ensemble playing Salford red devils related tunes? In appropriate parts of the game? Imagine a starter of songs type band. The first few bars of tunes to get the singers going then leave it and let the boys sing! We did a very similar thing at the Etihad on Tuesday and it went down a storm, playing in the concourse and outside beforehand....

We need to think about the new fan, not the existing fan. If we do what we always did we will get what we always got.

Quote: IvDiv "Don't want to butt in where I'm not wanted, and can't say I attend the SCS on a regular basis (for obvious reasons) so can't really comment on what the atmosphere 'normally' is like, but that "American-ised" marching band type noise that was emanating from the North East corner at last night's game was a constant annoyance throughout the 80 minutes.

I don't think it did ANYTHING at all to enhance what was otherwise an enjoyable trip to the stadium for me.

This is Rugby League, NOT MLS, NFL, MLB, NBA or any of those other American sports that are attempted to be "jazzed" up by marching bands and majorettes! Let's promote the game to the wider audience in places like America and so on, but PLEASE don't turn it into a high-five slapping charade'"

You're in danger of being described as a misery-guts. I completely agree, though. However, in an age in which corporate elites invariably indulge in populist sentiment, resulting in a clinical, superficial, cocacolonialised (Americanised) interpretation of entertainment, crowd-leading bands designed to whip the consumers into a pseudo-frenzy, appears to be a winner (in numerical terms). Programmes such as the XFactor, devoid of quality in the sense that many understand the word, are hugely successful. Likewise, clubs like Leeds and Bradford have embraced the abovementioned culture and have been a huge draw for large swathes of locals.

It's a brand I do not subscribe to, but if increasing attendance figures is the major objective, the evidence suggests it's a winning formula.

Stadium Bands = entertainment for people with tiny brains.

Probably why the idea is going down well on the official facebook page.

Salford Red Devils RLFC. [quote="Gotcha":y7izhg01]Salford won't win Super League in my lifetime. Even saying in jest they would sounds stupid.[/quote:y7izhg01]:

South Standers need to pull their finger out and get a decent atmosphere going at games, because apart from the odd occasion the place is like a morgue. Hopefully we don't ever resort to needing a band, but I can see why people are thinking about it.

I think people are missing the intended point here, surely the idea of a band is to help make the game day experience more attractive to the new type the Doc wants to see week in week out at the stadium. I bet there's none of us won't go if there is a band and that any new families who might be tempted who have younger kids will love the idea.

I'm afraid it's called progress and seems to help create a good atmosphere at other grounds.

Normally I would say a definite no.
But I didn’t mind the band on Thursday and in our current void of atmosphere stadium and trying to attract families, I have to say lets give it a go. What have we got to lose if it doesn’t work?

That's the point, make it a decent experience and do it properly I don't see what harm it can do.

Any atmosphere is better than the nothingness we have now.

People seem to be forgetting that we've, by and large, been poor since the move, and you can probably count the memorable performances on one hand. When we have performed well (think the Catalan wins, HKR, Warrington) the atmosphere has actually been good.

Years of stodge under Mcrae sucked the passion out of watching Salford - hopefully a decent team that have a reasonable chance of winning most home games, with some exciting players, will resurrect the atmosphere without resorting to Muppetisation.

Please, in the name of all that is holy no, no, no.

It's bad enough that the experience of watching a Super League game on TV from Headingley is ruined by that atrocious band or that any England football game is best watched on mute to avoid the band at their games. Now people are honestly suggesting that we should be forced to listen to this pap while we're watching Salford?

Are people seriously suggesting that the best way we can attract new fans is by making them listen to a band playing 'Tequila' every 5 mins? Society has indeed reached a new low if that is the case.

If anyone can explain how a band playing 'we will rock you' during the game will enhance the matchday experience at Salford then I'm all ears.

Pre match/half time could be an option as the club need to start making home games more of an occasion rather than everyone just turning up 5 mins before kick off.

Ken Gill could make the ball talk.:

I think this hits the nail on the head. If we manage to get a winning team playing attractive rugby then there will be an atmosphere at the stadium without a band in sight. I found it an unnecessary irritation during the World Cup game.

I also think that the McRae years did us a lot of damage; damage that we will recover from if the new signings perform.

It's a long time since I've looked forward to a new season as much as I am doing now!

Enough said, If this is a way to entice the new fan then why not give them red and white wigs and giant foam hands while we're at it? icon_biggrin.gifOH: There is nothing worse than having to listen to n0bbers banging their drums at Wigan, Wire etc. The atmosphere may be bad at the moment but string a few wins together next season and the old shed-like armosphere will return.
