St Helens couldn't handle him, Warrington couldn't handle him & Wigan couldn't handle him, what chance of we got?

Crackin' player but sadly flawed.

Why is it that all those saying we should sign him up even though he's been a "bad boy" are the same ones using that argument to not sign Cooke? Both of them quality player. Both with to much off field trouble.

No thanks Gleeson I/we don't want you.

Ye you may be right about Saints and Wire but didnt Wigan get rid due to the trouble he got himself into outside of club time.? Think he got on well with the wigan players and coaches but they can't keep a player who's plastered all over the press about being blackmailed by so-called underworld figures? I know it'll be a risk but how we stand currently a its a risk i think the Reds should take?

Listen we don't know what's really happened and why he's been released and until we do I think I will keep my thoughts on whats has happened to myself.

Looking at it from a purely rugby point of view, we should sign him!! The guy's world class!! His performance in the grand final last year was immense. He's played for three of the biggest teams in SL so he must have something about him.

First accept sadness. Realise that without losing 70% of the time, winning wouldn't be such a relief.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_32990.jpg

This could all be hypothetical if we haven't the money to sign him but . .

He's an International quality centre with probably 2 years left in him at Superleague level. It may be worth giving him a chance if the conditions were right for Salford. If he wants to continue playing in SL and isn't keen on travelling (Assuming another SL team were interested) then he might come for less money and prove a real asset to the team. I'm sure our wingers would welcome playing outside him with open arms. Perhaps we could offer him a deal until the end of the season with special clauses:

1. Perform and get another 12 months after this year.
2. Any more trouble and the contract is cancelled with immediate effect.

Quote: KMT "Not for me to be honest. I would rather we signed a younger player with potential. I know he is class and all, but he is trouble and is 30+, i would like us to sign a player who could be on the way up and bring the club forward with their growth as opposed to a player that is on the decline, as we seem to have done with a few of our signings this year. Obviously we have signed a few exceptions to that i.e the general but he is a top pro who is no doubt a great influence to the kids and fellow teammates and is the kind a pro that we all want to see playing for and promoting our club, unlike Gleeson who I fear wouldn't'"

Agree entirely. He's had his chances and screwed them up: talent undoubtedly, but a possible bad influence that we can't afford. I don't know what sort of salary he's been used to either, but it won't be peanuts.

I here what you say but it didn't prevent Wigan winning Superleague last year of which he was a big part of.

As for screwing it up, I don't think he did at Saints because Warrington paid a £200K transfer fee for him didn't they? And then he left Warrington because they needed a fullback and swapped him for Richie Mathers with Wigan paying £125K on top of the swap deal.

I don't think there is any diubt about his playing credentials and whilst he's not the player he was and is now the wrong side of 30 from what I have seen over the last couple of years, he is still a class act. I don't know much about his alleged off field antics and as long as they stay off field and don't affect his performances or influence his team mates I'm not sure I would be that bothered.

Given the circumstances we may be able to get him on a cheap deal and it may mean we are able to move Nero into the pack more often to strengthen the 2nd row. Gleeson would certainly improve our defence

But his head has to be sufficiently sorted for it to be considered

I think it is a bit different from Cooke because there seem to be more stories about Cooke creating disharmony at his clubs than there are about Gleeson

You have watched Martin Gleeson play, right? He's got great hands, awareness and tons of experience, but a big strong hard player he isn't, you're mixing him up with Keith Senior!

I'm aware of the circumstances of his recent ' issue' at Wigan , and yes he is not perfrect !
However cast your mind back to the Grand Final and the tries he / created - scored . he still has great on field capabilities , we should have enough experience in our squad / coaching set up to manage him off field .
If he is available sign him on .

Probably a load of poo, but if we are going to offer him a contract, I'd only take him on a pay as you play and kick him out if he causes any problems.

Only problem with a 'pay as you play' deal is if the player performs very well you could then potentially lose what may become an important player at a minutes notice should another team offer more money.
