Unless it's a done deal and the club are waiting to make an announcement after we have got the Saints & Huddersfield fixtures out of the way. Two potentially heavy defeats wouldn't be the ideal start for any new coach coming in.

| If it is to be Brian Noble I shall look foward to the future debates on conditioning,as I remember clearly the excess weight carried by Feka and 'Piggy' Riddell at the end of the Noble tenure at Wigan and how they had both changed by the time the pre-season games, following that, came around for Maguire.

At Present we are operating with a 66 yr old director of rugby , with major health problems , based in NZ who is travelling across the world 3/4 times a year , for a guy who's had valve bypass surgery & a history of blood clots not ideal.
I see him as a consultant who'll step back once appointments of coaching & backroom staff are made & key targets identified for quota players for 2014-15.
so potentially we could have positions for Head Coach & Director of rugby , & to quote the Neil Barker Steve Martin Pun Marwan is the 'Man with two Brians' a Brian for Head Coach & a Brian for Director of Rugby , who have previously worked together. ?

| I'm still wondering where this "Noble has an excellent reputation down under" idea has come from??
Massively underwhelmed if it is Noble and not Smith/Sheens/Anderson.

Additionally the coaching and backroom structure is crying out for extra resourses. If you look at other clubs they generally operate with two assistant coaches and we have one. They also have two people working on strength and conditioning and again we have one. Further to this other clubs have people in other supporting positions we have never had. It's all down to finances but if you want the best performance out of your squad it doesn’t come cheap.

Noble is just as good a coach as Tim Sheens! He's the guy who masterminded GB's last win in Australia, lets remember.

It is quite strange how some people bang on about how players have to prove themselves in the NRL and the last 2 Ellis and Graham seem to have done that and no doubt some,if not all,the Burgess brothers will do likewise, but the coaches from this country haven't done likewise.
Malcolm Reilly, the ex Castleford and national head coach was a winner at Newcastle Knights but he wasn't so successful at Leeds.
There were rumours that Noble was to get a job in Australia but it didn't materialise. rlSourcerl
I suppose the views from Australian players who played against a national side coached by Noble would be valuable.

Too true - look at the coaches of the current top 4 in Super League! Not a day of NRL experience between them.

3 of those 4 head coaches did serve as assistants under Australian head coaches.
The poor fella who has just lost his job at Salford did serve under Brian Noble.
Am I right in thinking that Brian Noble was coaching at Bradford and at Wigan when both clubs breached the salary cap ?
Although far too early to judge,it may be best for a young English assistant to be mentored by an Australian for stability and continuity.Seems to have worked okay at Bradford;but they only lost one player despite their financial woes.

| As someone said previously,McRae looked ok at the time.
Whether its Noble or Smith, each would be a decent bet,and it will either work out ok or it won't but,at least ,the Doctor is going for a guy that has a good track record.
The reference to salary cap is irrelevant except insofar as we want to be pushing hard against that cap.
The 2 of them together is a complete non starter

| Today's print edition of the ever-dependable Manchester Evening Speculator states that the Two Brians option is under consideration.
Given recent performances, I wonder if the doctor is also considering an Alan option.

A lot of people in the game (players included) are waiting for this appointment to see how serious the Doctor really is and if it backs up the big talk. An inexperienced coaching appointment would be viewed as something that comes out of a bulls bottom.
It would have Blackburn Rovers and Venkys written all over it.

Well he has to be involved at some level. Big difference seen and I too like his non aversion to youth.

| Phil Vievers worked alongside Brian Noble for several seasons. If Vievers was not good enough then what extra can Brian Noble bring? So much depends if the DR and Salford fans want to win competitions or just win a few more games. If all you want are slightly more wins then Brian Noble is your man. If you want far more then Brian Noble is not the man for Salford.
