Quote: theredshed "[iI don’t want to appear insensitive here but . . .[/i

If SM’s illness is as believed to be ‘stress’ wouldn’t you think a month off with too much time to dwell on the problems will only make his condition worse? I’m no medical expert but I would have thought a few days rest, some prescription drugs and working towards improving the team would be a far more effective remedy. This unfortunate situation could actually work positively in Shaun McRae’s favour by encouraging extra support and commitment from the players.

Whilst not yet qualified and speaking purely from a limited academic background in this area I must say that in the main, I disagree with the above. Like I say, I'm not qualified yet and thus cautious about providing a detailed argument as to why I disagree.

I wouldn't class it as utter rubbish when there are plenty of people with repute backing up and coming out with more or less the same "rumours".
Let's just see how many games Bailey and Anderson play between them at the end of the season and re-visit this thread then.

If Anderson and Bailey have been signed without these problems being checked beforehand then Simms and anyone else who had an input should be all sacked. It is gross negligence and shows how poorly at certain levels the club is run - there needs to be an overhaul and in time for the new personnel to settle into the club before we go to the new ground (will not happen though)

Agree 100%. It's a joke, if true.

The situation with SM makes matters worse in regards to his suitability to carry on as Head Coach. After hearing his last interview and reading his comments, it is evident that he could be suffering from stress / anxiety / depression. If this truly is the case, I'm afraid a month isn't going to make any difference to his well being.

No-one wants to see this guy suffer, however it is clearly time for him to go. JW should persuade SM that it's in his own personal interests to go and pay up his contract and finish him on medical grounds.

If the club were to do this I've heard they wouldn't have the money to bring in a new coach. If SM was to see out the remainder of his contract on the sick (or paid off) then I'd imagine the other club coaches would have to share the duties between them. I don't agree with bringing in a new coach during the season anyway, prehaps this will give the club a few months to find a suitable replacement. (That is if one of the existing coaches doesn't stand up to grab the opportunity with both hands)

His health comes first.End of.
I hope he makes a quick and full recovery.

In relation to Bailey firstly you can forget insurance.
I would have thought that if he has been unable to commence his side of the contract then the club won't be in for its full length..
I find it difficult to believe there was no medical and then no protection within his contract

It's like buying a house without getting a survey done. I think the bigger concern should be why the injuries weren't picked up on the medical?
Did the powers that be decide to wing it despite being made aware of any injury, or was it missed all together?
Are medicals done in house or off site? If off site there may be a conversation to have with the parties carrying out the assesments.

Quote: Ceejames "Around 34 tackles a game and missing 12% of them [4 a game!]. A high figure for a good back rower. I am not bagging SW, he did a great job at the Giants. Will he hold up for the whole of 2011...and 2012....and 2013? I doubt it.'"

I seem to remember Wigan fans querying our signing of David Hodgson along the same lines.

I've been impressed with Wild so far. I believe Wild was a calculated risk re is injury history but a risk worth taking , so far it is paying dividends , as for Stats , they won't be a real indicator for a few more rounds 7-8.

as for Bailey & Vinnie Anderson, hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ,

but to remind everyone we are not a superstar team where everyone is queuing up to play for us. and recruitment was regarded as of a higher standard.

I think we need to hear what the club has to say on the subject first. Rumours in the game can spread very quickly and are often found to be exaggerated and inaccurate. I find it strange that there was no mention of it on these forums after they signed for us last year but now everyone can't wait to tell us. I guess the fact both players have missed the opening few games will only fuel these rumours at the moment. One troll mentioned something about Anderson's back problem yet I heard he's out at present with a calf problem!

I say lets wait and see before we start finger pointing, demanding sackings and causing more undue stress around the club. I heard Vinnie Anderson was signed by Salford on the recommendation of Adrian Morley and I can't imagine Mozza wanting to stitch up his home town club.

[ I have only seen SW versus Crusaders where he was poor and less athletic than I have ever seen him. lets see how he goes over 2 or 3 years]

as for Bailey & Vinnie Anderson, hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ,

[No hindsight required. Plenty of people knew that these guys were 'creeking' last year with the medical / conditioning expertise available at Wigan / Wolves. ]

but to remind everyone we are not a superstar team where everyone is queuing up to play for us. and recruitment was regarded as of a higher standard.'"

Take a 'risk' by all means. But it should be manageable risk.

It can be managed by:

- signing no more than a couple 'high risk' players re fitness / health

- Sign on a year + a year 2 option (subject to a certain amount of games being played in Y1 and loading the 2nd year on pay for play)

- Ensure there are high quality medicial checks ahead of signing + high quality medical / conditioning micro management through the season

The process at Salford seems to increase risk to a ridiculous level. Someone made these decisions and they are letting down the chairman , the fans and the club.
