I have done my bit, today I must have drunk 15 pints more than anyone else in the middle 8's - I am home and dried

| Quote: Derek Smalls "Having seen them both over the last week I'm not convinced Wakefield will beat Halifax or Sheffield. Also don't think Bradford will win at Leigh. So 8 points will be plenty.'"
I beg to differ actually, we have a positive points difference over Wakefield of just 67 points. If we lose both our remaining games by, say, 12 points each game (and I'm being generous there), they just have to beat Halifax and Sheffield by around 20 points each game and hey presto the million pesos games beckons. One big win by Wakey against either Fax or Sheffield and our points difference is wiped out. We need to beat one of either Widnes or HKR to be absolutely sure.

Correct.
If Wakefield win their games and we lose ours,it's almost inevitable they'll finish above us on points difference

| I understand that. I am just far from convinced they will beat Halifax AND Sheffield (even by a solitary point) as both those teams look pretty good from what I have witnessed.
Plus Wakey look as though they may not have the services of a certain full back capable of 'running rings' round anyone (or their first choice scrum half for that matter)...

How wrong you were, apparently a couple of Middle 8 players on the other side of the Pennines were giving you a good run for your money.....before then driving home!

If you don't know the difference between "there", "their" and "they're" I might get annoyed.

| It is going to be nail biting stuff that is for sure.
What are the odds on a draw for your boys next weekend?
Honestly though when you look at it Widnes have had a stellar defence in these play offs. You've been high scorers in your matches so it is an interesting scenario.
As for us (Wakey) well we are still a big unpredictable team. In all honesty I think we've performed relatively well in all our qualifier games apart from last Saturday which was like James Webster was holding the reins again!
I'm expecting a big turn around in our performances now. The fans don't accept what happened against Widnes and I sincerely hope that Brian Smith won't either. The issue now is that Halifax and Sheffield will be high on confidence and that is going to make it a lot more difficult for us. Looking at the table we haven't really scored a lot but then again we've played all SL clubs and have potentially the 2 easiest fixtures left.
It could be a tight finish in a couple of weeks with us glued to our phones for score updates!
Either way I think both our teams have the beating of Bradford in a million pound game. They just seem to fall away and can't compete with the intensity of SL clubs.

| Don't consider Halifax and Sheffield as easy fixtures, I know they should be in comparison to Hull KR, Widnes, Leigh and even Bradford but they're not a million miles away. Yesterday for example Sheffield came into the game knowing they had absolutely nothing to lose and played a very care-free style of RL which came up trumps for them on a number of occasions.
Despite losing to Sheffield earlier in the competition, I think Halifax based on what I have seen are the better of the two sides. Very well organised and difficult to breakdown, that could be a close one for yourselves although home advantage should see you through.
Our defence is a major concern for me. Yes we seem capable of scoring plenty, but we're conceding far too many. I'm dreading what Brown, Handbury and Marsh etc will do to us this weekend. Hopefully the mentality of the players will improve this weekend due to the higher standard of opposition, because in recent weeks it's been very poor.
I'm just glad Hull KR are safe and sound going into our final game, because the chances are we'll need something from this.

You weren't there a couple of weeks ago. No Salfordian who was will feel anything like confident if we have to meet them
I'm still reeling from that "game".

Pollsters doing Excellent job - say recent polls.: |
|
| The 3 way tie that Bradford beating Salford who beat Wakey who beat Bradford has potentially created could be interesting.
A reasonable possibility that all 3 of us could be tied on 8 points in 2weeks time with points difference deciding 3rd, 4th, 5th places...

| I still think there will be a draw before the final positions have been sorted, us playing two top flight teams for me makes us favorites to draw for me.

| Please God no!
Our current defence must mean any opposition team will be very confident of being able to get to a position to slot over a drop goal at any time in a game.
Also, MR, I had no nails left at the end of the game at Widnes.

| As I said on a previous thread, a draw on Sunday sees us and yourselves both safe on 9 points.
At about 20/1 with the bookies it might be worth a punt.

Probably also subject to an RFL investigation which concludes the matter as inconclusive. Such a result would have the long held infamy of the Featherstone v Halifax draw in the 1980s - that result guaranteed Halifax the league title and guaranteed Featherstone didn't go down. Highly suspicious.
