I really don't understand why anyone bothers with the stadium car park unless they have mobility problems - but then again, I am massively impatient and would rather walk 20 minutes than queue up.

Of course, the stadium car park problem could be alleviated in part by having a fans bar (not a grey, breezeblock concourse) where people could spend some time to spread the end of game exodus.

I have some sympathy for the attendants. Its not their fault we only have one small entry/exit road at the moment. The major cause of the bottleneck is that pedestrian crossing on Liverpool road.If that could be moved , say , 50 metres along Liverpool road then surely it wouldnt interfere with all the cars turning right for the motorway and pedestrians could cross over at the same time . Hope I explained that properly !

The blind leading the blind! There are actually two exits at the bottom of the stadium road leading to Liverpool Rd. but thats not the issue. I was in a car that has a permit for FRONT WEST STAND but was force directed to the north stand car park even when there were spaces in the west stand car park? Why? Then after the game I got in the car at 21.40 and was not permitted to move by some fool blocking all exits with cones until 22:25. 45 minutes?????????????? It's simply unacceptable. The lights on Liverpool Road have extended green light time and less on red for match days. When we finally got on the stadium rd it took less than a minute from the roundabout at the stadium to exit at the lights on Liverpool rd. The issue is in the car park itself not the final exit route! Whoever is responsible for directing traffic off the car park needs a serious dressing down.

Iain you are right not to park there, organise/-up/brewery/couldn't spring to mind!

Yes and those two exits come from the 1 road leading too them, well you need to grow a pair and park where your ticket says your allowed to park, i was working in the ground before and during the game and only went on the car park after full time, the ground safety officer has the final call over everything in and around the ground, and its him that calls for the car park too be closed while the pedestrians leave the ground. As your get Knob heads driving across pavements, across pedestrian crossings. would only be a matter of time untill someone was knocked over, if you bothered reading my last post, the car parks would empty far quicker if the cars just did what they was told and not try taking things into their own hands, moving cones and ripping tapes. then cutting in on people who have waited properly. A wigan fan and her police officer husband thought they would try and take over and tried to open the car park and send the cars a completely different way making a huge mess, so its more the fans than the attendants.

I thought the traffic looked less congested on Friday before the game, I was only walking but it didn't look anywhere like as manic as other home games.

As Walshie says a few interesting comments but most just having a go at Rugby league and the number of tries scored 12 in one match would normally be the net result of all games played in Yawnian over the weekend. I have no problem parking myself and a 10 minute walk does keep the weight off.

Quote: reds_boy "I was working on the carpark last night, and your ignorance and the ignorance of many many other fans is unbeliveable. how can you blame the attendants ? there is one entrance and exit out of the ground which is controled by traffic lights joining liverpool road. the ground safety officer gives the order the close the car parks at full time to stop idiots like last night driving like to$$ers across the pavement infront of the reception to get out faster. the carparks are still not finished yet, which again isnt the attendants fault. cones, chains and tape are in place to everyone in order and going out one exit. but the braindead people rip them down and make their own exits cutting in on others. making the whole situation worse. we only do our job the best we can to make up for the mistakes of planners and retard fans.'"

Firstly I thought that the parking on Friday night was an improvement over previous nights.

I have a season pass for the car park and have never been directed to the same area twice and on Friday night we were directed to the land adjacent to where the coaches pick up, near to the outside pitches, it was the mud bath earlier in the season.

We watched all the match, ambled slowly to the car park, drove out and was back in Walkden for 9.55pm.

As one who has been in correspondence with the stadium company over the matter the following points are relevant-

It would appear that the car park stewards are being given different instructions each week and it is this that causes some of the problems.

I have never had a problem with the lights on the A57 on exiting the stadium site.

Anyone driving in the manner that you have witnessed should be stopped and reported, there does seem to be enough stewards to do this.

The way that the system has been set up with tapes that appear to change each match, cars being directed away from the area that the drivers have been told to park in, and the stadium being new has caused some of the problems.

If the area available for parking was closely looked at and the correct traffic flow was adopted it would make things better for all concerned.

Why is the stadium website stating that there is no cash parking when there is?

Why aren't the stewards issued with some decent torches until some lights are erected?

Lastly your comments about some fans are way off the mark and a possible change of career may be advisable.

This. I parked up for free on the estate across the way from Eccles Rugby Club. ten minute walk after the game and I was home in Wigan by 10.30pm.

I don't understand why any regular would park on the official car park.

Thus you can appreciate mine and others frustration as I was still on the car park at 10.30pm. Its about as organised as Widnes's defence in Catalan and the only response posted on here from someone who worked the car park is its everyone else's fault icon_surprised.gifops:

OK, do I give the benefit of the doubt after five occasions?................... Yes to a parking attendant doing a job he's asked, but no not a chance to whoever is responsible to asking him to do the job! Give me five minutes with that pr/ck and I bet you wouldn't get as much sh/t as Childs has!
