| Paterson has all of the attributes to be a top class player, however it seems at times that he gets in the way of himself succeeding. When he signed for us, his first 10 games showed him at his best. He was strong running, made tackle busts, had good hands for a second rower and I thought he was going to be one of our best players of recent times.
After that time though it just didn't work out. I can't remember whether the rumours were that his wife couldn't settle, or his wife didn't come to England and therefore he couldn't settle (something like that). Either way for the rest of the season he wasn't the same player. He was lazy, lethargic and just didn't get involved enough.
If you get his head right you will have a top super league player, that said many in the NRL in addition to ourselves have tried to harness his undoubted talent and ended up scratching our heads.

| Another new signing greeted with optimism by Salford fans and "he's crap, he's a mercenary" from others. Shock horror.
I'm not convinced with the comments from the KR fans and the fact that he retired from RL to take up boxing a tthe end of the season, but who knows. From the limited times I've seen him, he has all the attributes. if you believe KR fans he won't touch the ball in the first half hour of a game and be found hiding behind Moz having a kebab after that.
The big thing is for next year is that we don't need a world beater in the pack. A solid addition is more than adequate.

No I am saying he will prefer living and playing in Salford, a City that doesn’t; a) have the highest percentage of people on the dole than anywhere else in the UK, b) smell of fish, c) is in the middle of nowhere, d) has one of the worst education systems in the UK and e) has the highest sufferers of type 2 diabetes in the UK (key indicator for obesity, poor diet and lack of exercise).

| Started well tailed off for us (H.K.R) could start well and get better but the U.K hasnt changed much since he left so he may be homesick quickly again for those who watch the NRL he played his last 3 games on the wing and was subbed off in 2. I think he started 1 game in the 2nd row all season and was subbed not to return and he did announce his retirement from the game to return to boxing but who knows maybe a look at the dedication needed for boxing was enough to fire him up for another crack at league. Not sure if he is still a muslim he converted while down under after a few alcohol related misdemeanors. An all round interesting character (good boot on him too) If you get him anything like he started off with us youve got a cracker.

| Is this the big name signing the Doc promised? Honestly not trolling here, but I've never heard of the guy! And from reading the other comments on here, it sounds like he's already tried it over here, didn't fancy it, and now the Doc has probably thrown loads of money his way after he quit the Tigers and he's thought why not.
Not exactly what I would be expecting by the way of a "big name" signing to be honest. Doubt any SL team is going to fear playing against him are they!

Marwan trailered the signing on Twitter but I don't think he particularly trailered it as a [ibig name[/i signing did he?

I'd heard of him, as had many others on here, so perhaps the fact that you hadn't says more about you than it does about him.

Probably? I could just as easily say Marwan probably hasn't thrown much money at him and it'd be every bit as valid as your assertion. None of us know what he's being paid.
Quote Mike Oxlong="Mike Oxlong"Not exactly what I would be expecting by the way of a "big name" signing to be honest.'"
Me neither, but then I wasn't expecting a big name signing.

I don't know. It's a team sport. Is there any team in any sport in the world where other teams fear every single player in it? Apart from the Harlem Globetrotters.

Fair Assessment , I'd say
two points ,
It was his better half that got homesick, not him if the story is true. and it sounds like the disruption affected his 2nd half performance.
He actually went back home to play in the NRL , after HKR released him. unlike our mate Joel Moon , who played the same card but got couldn't even be ar5ed with the pretext of a Qantas flight and got a taxi to Leeds instead.
Any new signing , especially a overseas signing is a gamble , as you cannot guarantee the level of performance or how they will fit into the team.
Providing Salford Quays very own Ramsey St will keep his wife happy ... & Iestyn can keep the Patersons mind on the Job he should prove quite useful .

A lot of what Marwan posts on Twitter seems to elicit irrelevant responses of either "should of ([isic[/i) bought a different club" or "your ([isic[/i) crowds are crap". They seem to think they've come up with something new and hilarious, like they're the reincarnation of Bill Hicks or something. I tend to see these people as thick, bordering on special needs. I've always classed you as just plain ignorant. Please don't make me reconsider.

Regarding the homesickness, he and his family must have considered it as part of their decision to come back over so, hopefully, it won't be as much of a problem this time. The fact that it's only a one year deal may help too.

| I don’t think Marwan once claimed it was a ‘big’ signing. I posted on the ‘New Signing’ topic that I was told it would be a big signing, all rumours though.
Cory also has friends and former team mates at Salford already in Michael Dobson and Junior Sa’u, plus the rest of our overseas signings appear to have settled well and are enjoying life in Salford. Which is a good sign.
It makes me laugh how on one hand rival supporters moan about how Koukash is managing Salford’s salary cap, yet then proceed to bag our new signings as a) not good enough or b) not a big enough name. Paterson is a very good addition to the team and strengthens us further in a position we now look very strong in.

| We don't know how Cory Paterson will perform in a Salford shirt, but his signing does continue the improvement in the squad on paper. I know that it's how the team performs on the pitch that counts and we don't know what will happen, though I live in hope tempered by my disappointments during the first half of last season.
This increased hope is based on the improvements I think I see in the 2015 squad.
Jake Mullaney is replaced by Kevin Locke; Danny Williams by Ben Jones-Bishop; Martin Gleeson and Francis Meli by Josh Griffin and Mason Caton-Brown. Tim Smith has gone and we've got Michael Dobson.
Shannon McPherson has been replaced by Scott Taylor; Steve Rapira by Weller Hauraki and Matty Ashurst by Cory Paterson. Stuart Howarth, Logan Tomkina and Gareth Owen have been replaced by Liam Hood, George Griffin, Carl Forster, Luke Menzies, Brad England, Matt Groat and Matty Gee.
Not all of the new signings will reach the heights; some will disappoint; others will over-achieve. Some of the signings are players to be developed. We will have to wait and see, but it seems to me we are in a much stronger position than last season, with no disrespect to any of the players who are leaving us.
I, for one, am certainly looking forward to next season.

| This isn't a troll at the genuine people from Hull but you'd think that living in Salford/Manchester offers his family more, not a 3 hr road trip after the flight, friends already in the area, more for families to do on a daily basis, better options for travel too see a bit of Europe and generally a better environment to bring a family to live in.
Hull and the surrounding area is a very nice part of the world but it isn't an internationally renowned big city with it's many varied activities.
I doubt the Doc has brought him over on a massive contract, more that he would be on a good bonus scheme if he performs with the carrot of a better deal for the second year if he delivers
