Having letters after your name doesn't change your title though. You're still plain Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms.
And do you know for sure that the doctor refers to himself as "the doctor". We call him that because it's kind of become a nickname, but that's not to say that he uses it. |

It does if you have a doctorate (PhD, DSc etc.) and are into honorific titles (such as Mr. or Dr.). |

The term Doctor is a shortetmed term for Doctorate. Weather it be electrical engineer, teaching and learning or in medicine, their all Doctors none the less and most use their title and I think they should as its no easy task getting a PHD In any form. |
