If SM’s illness is as believed to be ‘stress’ wouldn’t you think a month off with too much time to dwell on the problems will only make his condition worse? I’m no medical expert but I would have thought a few days rest, some prescription drugs and working towards improving the team would be a far more effective remedy. This unfortunate situation could actually work positively in Shaun McRae’s favour by encouraging extra support and commitment from the players.
It’s also noticeable on this forum that since this news broke supporters anger towards him appears to have diminished and a level of compassion towards his illness is evident.
Hopefully if and when he returns he will not have to endure the personal criticism he experienced against St Helens. As much as I’m disappointed with the start to the season I don’t think any human being should have to suffer personal insults whilst trying to do a job.

Whilst not yet qualified and speaking purely from a limited academic background in this area I must say that in the main, I disagree with the above. Like I say, I'm not qualified yet and thus cautious about providing a detailed argument as to why I disagree.

I wouldn't class it as utter rubbish when there are plenty of people with repute backing up and coming out with more or less the same "rumours".
Let's just see how many games Bailey and Anderson play between them at the end of the season and re-visit this thread then.

| If Anderson and Bailey have been signed without these problems being checked beforehand then Simms and anyone else who had an input should be all sacked. It is gross negligence and shows how poorly at certain levels the club is run - there needs to be an overhaul and in time for the new personnel to settle into the club before we go to the new ground (will not happen though)

Agree 100%. It's a joke, if true.

| The situation with SM makes matters worse in regards to his suitability to carry on as Head Coach. After hearing his last interview and reading his comments, it is evident that he could be suffering from stress / anxiety / depression. If this truly is the case, I'm afraid a month isn't going to make any difference to his well being.
No-one wants to see this guy suffer, however it is clearly time for him to go. JW should persuade SM that it's in his own personal interests to go and pay up his contract and finish him on medical grounds.

If the club were to do this I've heard they wouldn't have the money to bring in a new coach. If SM was to see out the remainder of his contract on the sick (or paid off) then I'd imagine the other club coaches would have to share the duties between them. I don't agree with bringing in a new coach during the season anyway, prehaps this will give the club a few months to find a suitable replacement. (That is if one of the existing coaches doesn't stand up to grab the opportunity with both hands)

| His health comes first.End of.
I hope he makes a quick and full recovery.
In relation to Bailey firstly you can forget insurance.
I would have thought that if he has been unable to commence his side of the contract then the club won't be in for its full length..
I find it difficult to believe there was no medical and then no protection within his contract

It's like buying a house without getting a survey done. I think the bigger concern should be why the injuries weren't picked up on the medical?
Did the powers that be decide to wing it despite being made aware of any injury, or was it missed all together?
Are medicals done in house or off site? If off site there may be a conversation to have with the parties carrying out the assesments.
