| Like it or not Football rules in this area.
Most Citeh and United games are now on a Sunday, moving Salford to the same day would not work and probably hurt the attendance even more.

| Quote: Bigpev "OK Celtic got 6500 against Saints, our first two homw games have been against 2 of the 3 worst supported away following teams. There was no more than 50 away supporters at both games combined, these should be our lowest crowds for the season now, if not we really are in trouble and this new guru for marketing is not doing his job.
An aside why plastic glasses in the club before the match, that has put me off going into the place before a game now, I hate drinking from plastic glasses it taints the taste of the beer, another thing that as not been thought through. It made the variety centre feel tacky, and the "DJ" well the less said the better, hula hoops!!!!!!!!!
If i was visiting for the first time i would not want to go back'"
More of a concern for me was that it was £2.50 a pint (in a plastic glass)before the game. Last season it was Tavern prices.

| Leading up to the F decisions i'd have preferred to have had WIdnes in rather than yourselves but since you were chosen I think everyone should be rallying round to support you not put the boot in when things aren't going too well.
You need to do something about those crowds though. Is there any word on how the stadiums progressing? Haven't heard anything in ages! Last I heard you were having problems with some company going bust or something?

| Do you think maybe Friday nights should be reserved for the Lancashire games? I know that a lot of West Yorkshire fans are put off by the M62 on a Friday night, as its generally a dogs breakfast and straight after work. It's a quick run on a Sunday.
As for pricing, £18 does seem too much, although I never get the feeling that the fans are being ripped off, as the smaller clubs like ours need all the money they can get. But I take the kids to the Huddersfield game because they get in for nothing, and the Galpharm will then see me part with cash for a burger or whatever.
Maybe the RFL could assist more, or is it just down to the clubs to take a gamble? Look at Huddersfield this year. The crowds are up because the prices are down.

Red City Developments went into administration when a backer pulled out but apparently they were just restructuring the board. We're all fed up with it on here mate. There's been that many stumbling blocks prior to this recession that no one has high hopes at the minute. Latest was that it wasn't going to be the iconic stadium we were promised and the design had changed, which I think would be a shame given the location of the site. No point having a bog standard stadium that close to a heavily used commuter motorway as it'll probably have the same effect on potential fans that the Bescott in Walsall does on M6 commuters, i.e. none.

Friday nights, it seems, suits corporate sales and sponsors more. They can incorporate attendance into their working day/week, rather than breaking into their weekend. This leaning may have to be rethought if corporate sales and sponsorship is drastically reduced in 2010 (as a result of 2009’s economic situation).
However, no matter which way you go, there will always be people who can’t or won’t make Sundays, and people who can’t or won’t make Fridays too.
Quote: Slugger McBatt "Maybe the RFL could assist more, or is it just down to the clubs to take a gamble? Look at Huddersfield this year. The crowds are up because the prices are down.'"
I think the RFL could help on an advisory level. I doubt this will happen because there is no apparent problem, generally, (yet,) with admission pricing. I echo what’s already been said — prices are becoming too expensive in comparison to other sports [isans[/i football.
You cannot compare other sports with football because it is totally a different beast; but, even football is realising that it has overpriced their admissions. Football has also realised that a generation was priced out of the market and that this could pose an attendance problem in the future. As a result prices are coming down, and some RL clubs, including Salford, are now reaching parity with northern-based Premier League clubs.
If an event is a special one, where the demand outstrips capacity, you can charge a lot of money. Leeds Rhinos can afford to do this, to an extent. Most clubs cannot. Why? Because there aren’t many [imust see[/i games in rugby league which outweights the lure of football.

There's your answer. The same for Bradford city/Sheff Weds in football as well.

Just thinking about this. There’s bound to be a positive effect initially; but when these prices become the accepted norn, who’s to say attendances won’t stagnate or even come down? It comes down to what the people, namely the relative locals, are willing to pay, or rather [iwant[/i to attend. To paraphrase Gus Rismante. Unfortunately, in the last 30 years, the highlights have been few and far between.
There’s another big problem the club has, and it’s something they can do nothing about. Salford, the city, has an identity problem. I don’t mean the past, the slums etc. I mean the age-old arguement: the distinction between Salford and Manchester. Salfordians use Manchester as their city centre. Salford needs its own, desirable city centre, desperately; but that’s a different argument.
