Quote: Red John "I don't think this year is about how many points or where we finish because it's very much a transitional year (although top 8 would be nice, and is still possible). All I'd like to see is a steady improvement so that we go into 2015 looking capable of at least challenging for the top 6. At the moment though, that improvement isn't always immediately apparent.'"

Come on Red John wasn't last year a transitional year also? How many more years are we going to use that ole chestnut? icon_wink.gif What kind of message is this? Put a couple of good displays in week 26 and 27 and everything will be cushty?

The bookies had as down for 7th place this year and anything less than 8th would be an epic failure in my eyes.

Last year wasn't the least bit transitional. He had to make the most out of what he had, which wasn't much.
Similarly,I don't see this year as transitional. We've fully spent the cap and we want results.
What I'm saying is that we should judge him at the end of the year,on position in the league.
Top 6 would be great,top 8 would be acceptable,probably.
Outside the 8 I think he has a problem, but he won't need me to tell him that.
It's too early to create more pressure .

Talking about pressure. It makes me laugh how some people are now suggesting it could be the Doc's fault for making them want to win too much for him. Who's fault will it be next? The kit washer or the coach driver? icon_lol.gif

I know I couldn't believe what I was reading. All's not lost we just need to find some consistent form soon or the pressure will intensify. I remember it took Tony Smith about 4-5 games before he turned Warrington around.

Last year was transitional in the sense of building a new squad and the structures to go around that squad. This year is transitional in the sense of getting that squad to gel, at least for the early part of the season. 2015 will be transitional in the sense that the squad will be transitioning to not being in a transitional phase.

The kit washer or the coach driver? The one I find most comical is the suggestion that he shouldn't comment on poor performances, like last week. Why not? Did the team not realise they had a stinker until he opened his mouth?

It's his baby so I guess he has every right to pass comment.

One thing I do like about the Doc is that I think he pretty much mirrors the fans feelings.

His enthusiasm is infectious to many but I suspect increasingly not in the corridors of power.

Re Warrington , I didn't remember so I checked ,
Warrington Finished 10th , in Smith's 1st season in charge 12 wins from 27 ,
they lost their 1st 5 Sl Games & 6 of their last 8.
What Saved Smiths bacon was their CC win with Lee Briers drop goal win in the Qtr final against Hull Kr which turned their season around .

What you haven't mentioned is Tony Smith didn't start the season as Warrington coach in 2009 so he didn't have the benefit of a pre season or to bring in his own players. Warrington hadn't won a single game when Smith took over and were at crisis point. Considering these facts he still won a few more than he lost (If you include cup games) and took them to Wembley and won the Challenge Cup for the first time in 35 years.

Now in my opinion (despite myself not warming to Smith's peculiar demeanor) I'd consider that a significant turnaround from the many false dawns the Warrington fans had to endure before that. Would you agree?

It's a very fine line. A win tonight and next week at Bradford and everybody will be more than happy with the progress. Lose these two and the pressure will really grow with the three tough fixtures that follow.

Salford Red Devils RLFC. [quote="Gotcha":y7izhg01]Salford won't win Super League in my lifetime. Even saying in jest they would sounds stupid.[/quote:y7izhg01]:

I dont think there is any expectation on us to get a result tonight. Hull FC are a good team and they shown that last week. What we do need is an improvement on recent weeks. The bookies have us at +8 handicap which is realistic.

Bradford is a must win next week though, obviously.

Obviously I want FC to win tonight, but taking the bigger view I hope you have a great season. Whatever anyone thinks of the doc, he brings some passion to the game and deserves some success.

I certainly think there's an expectation on us to improve significantly on last weeks poor showing. I believe if we go to Hull tonight with the right mindset and start the game extremely well it will put the pressure back on them. If this happens we put ourselves in with a shout of coming away a morale boosting victory.

Let's not forget that despite not really clicking yet we have some players now that could potentially destroy Hull if they're firing. The 'on' switch has to be pressed at some point, why not tonight in a big game.
