Ill informed - as per usual - `In December 2012, Darlington Mowden Park R.F.C. bought the arena and 17 acres (6.9 ha) of adjoining land, with the intention of developing a multi-sports facility.`

| Quote: Early Bath "I dont agree with you WF. Maybe at last clubs are coming to terms with financial reality. Wakey hit the Play offs with a squad built with minimum cash. Secondly other clubs - reliant on one person - Hull KR/London/Huddersfield etc will very soon be in a similar situation to ourselves.
The big 5 will stay that way and win everything in sight. So be it. Let them get on with it.
Unless clubs start making PROFITS there is no future for 90% of them.'"
Ok, so you were cock-a-hoop when we sold Smith to balance the books? I'm guessing you were also over the moon when we lost the rest of our backline at the end of the season. God knows how elated you'll feel when Jodie Broughton moves to Warrington in a few weeks.
The truth is, we all know that clubs need to be more financially responsible. However, you overlook the fact that Salford already operated on one of the lowest wage bills in Super League last year and yet we're still skint.
The squad we had last year was well coached but still wasn't good enough to challenge for a bloated top-8 play-off system - and we still couldn't afford to keep that squad together.
Perhaps the truth is we're simply not capable of sustaining a super league club and possibly never will be. I admire your glass half full mentality (to a point) but think you may be deluding yourself.

| I cannot see anyone buying Salford with the debts involved, The only way any investor/owner would come on board, would be to wait till we went in to administration then buy in without any debts. Renegotiate the terms with the Stadium, as it seems, (my thoughts) that Dave Tarry was allowed to negotiate all on his own following advice of so called (flawed) expert market research.
It would be nice if some rich owner took over, built Swinton's ground at Agecroft to be shared between Salford/Swinton, a real rugby ground with atmosphere, where both teams could enjoy full income streams
Well one can hope, dream

| The Smith sale was very prudent though wasnt it as he was moving there at the end of the season where the Club would not have recouped a penny.
The other sales were brought about by self interest from the players so any fees to the club were a bonus.
I am talking about a clean slate and the future and again suggest the percentage method as the way forward. Our situation must never happen again.

| Eh? We instigated at least one of the moves (Moon) ourselves, so I really don't know where you're coming from.
The problem with reducing the wage bill when you're in a comp where most others can spend more is you end up with a losing team > lower gates > less money. So simply 'existing' in Super League is not really a viable option.
Personally, if there isn't a white knight in waiting, I'd sooner we were realistic about the level we operate at rather than bust a gut simply trying to make up the numbers in Super League.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

A more realistic % option is to budget to spend 90 % of your previous years income , any monies left over to be spent on marketing, hopefully resulting in an increase in revenue the following year giving an increased playing budget and marketing spend
Unfortunatley it is common practice to budget higher than previously, however as has been posted elsewhere, you really do need a change of attitude from the SMC at Barton

| WF - Not sure why you are being critical of my posts as we are generally on the same side.
For the record its clear Moon wanted away before the end of last season plus Houldswoth after the end. We obtained some good money to keep staff wage payments up to date with that income until indeed the account was frozen.

| Reading that JAW, says that the RFL ,have assured him that, there is a potential buyer in the wings
I wonder if it could be the Aussie club, Perth Western Reds coming in to replace SCR ?

| I'd like the RFL to confirm that's what they said to him.
Why would anyone buy 1914 Limited when they could set up a Newco after administration, provided the League had given them to nod on continued membership of Superleague.

| Why are they waiting in the wings. Why not just come forward and put you all out of your misery. Incidentally the last investor the RFL brought into our game was the guy at South Wales Crusaders :O

| Wilky, Peel, Patten. SCC et al will be DESPERATE for the company not to go into admin for very obvious reasons.
As Bonita says though, why the hell would anyone in their right mind choose to buy 1914 Ltd until after it has been into admin?
This IMO is the reason for the continued impasse.

| Given that we are subject to a winding up petition, which if successful puts the business into liquidation, can we actually go into administration?
As I understand it administration is a stage before liquidation where an administrator runs the business as a going concern whilst trying to find a buyer, restructuring the debts, doing deals with creditors etc. Is that actually an option?

The RFL cannot bring investment in for sponsorship of the Super Dooper League or the Challenge Cup(as yet) so how they are going to get someone to come in and take on Salford's debt is beyond me.
I really hope the club survives but if it does then a major change in thinking at board level is needed.
Godd luck and Merry Christmas.
