Quote: JCWWRL "Well seeing as I said my cousin played for Wigan and thats why I grew up supporting them it really can't be too difficult to put it together and realise Denis is my cousin.'"
is your surname Purton?
Quote: JCWWRL "Why would i want to ask their opinion when I have my own? Also I did used to go watch Darren play for the "A" team but I don't really have many clear moments of those games as I was very young at the time (I'm 22 now) so most memories of RL as a kid are the big games at Central Park and what seemed the annual trip down to Wembley. I went to school in Prestwich and your academy(?) is at Phillips High School and at the time your 1st team were training at Sedgley Park RU but despite being so close to them and there being 3 high schools and many primary schools within that area Salford never once came into my school or any others in the area that I know of, infact Sedgley Park RU a semi-pro/amateur team did more around the schools and community. Maybe if you'd come into those schools where I know there was alot of people interested in the game but didn't have a real understanding of it you'd be in a better position with support. And why have you only now gone back to the red devil surely that is your biggest marketable claim?? That the most famous Football team in the world took its nickname from you.'"
As for in-school delivery...
RFL structures and funding pre-determines the delivery in schools. As Chair of Bury Broncos i have a pretty good understanding of how it all works...
Delivery locally is done by the (very good) Jenny Welsby (see: www.pitchero.com/clubs/burybronc ... 28104.html) who is part funded by Swinton, the Councils and the RFL. Bury and East Lancs is Swinton's 'patch' in terms of delivery and hence the arrangement. Salford's 'patch' is Manchester, Salford and Trafford. Wigan's patch is Wigan, extending into Chorley and as an example, Leigh's patch is Bolton.
This year in Bury we have had:
Tag tournaments open to all Yr 4, 5, 6 kids in Prestwich/Whitefield/Radcliffe
Invites to all Bury schools to enter high school girls tag - an Ok number entered
Invites to all Bury schools to enter Yr 7, Yr 8, Yr 9, and Yr 10 boys tournaments - around 6 teams entered at each age group (including Philips, Parrenthorn and Castlebrook)
Starting next Thursday - the 'Bury Academy' will start training - these are U15s and U13s selected from the school tournaments to play in two rep games against East Lancs - Salford will be there to watch by the way. See: www.pitchero.com/clubs/burybronc ... 92400.html
As it happens, Philips High Yr 10 have reached the final of the North West Development Schools cup (and ps. a number of lads in that team are on Salford scholarship, switching to league form RU). oh, and a Bury primary school won last years Greater Manchester youth games at Rugby League.
As said above - the delivery structures of the RFL mean different clubs cover different areas hence way you will not formally see Salford doing in-school delivery in Bury schools. That said, we as a club have a very good informal arrangement - we train/play on the same pitches next to each other, share storage space etc. at Philips with the Scholarships. The fact is that Salford helped broker our move to Philips - and given we had no-where to play this was critical (we wouldnt have been able to expand into junior sides without a base!). Since that move we've gone from one open age team to two, and a U11 team, and a U9 team and a U7s holding group...and a U15 and U13 Academy!
Through informal links, Salford do do bits in Bury - Parrenthorn have attended games and played on the pitch at half-time and if you look at the Philips High School PE kit (see pic here: images.pitchero.com/ui/220772/1336748768_0.jpg) you will see the Bury Broncos logo on the right arm, Salford's on the left... Salford (and Swinton) are letting the Broncos attend games this year to raise profile of junior sides.
All in all, they do what they can given it's not their patch.

name the last time a Bury schools rugby union tournament took place?
Sedgley are a good club, I watch them a lot, meet with their senior staff every now and then but they do not do much at all with local schools....[*]

| If Bury isn't Salfords patch why is their academy in Bury?? And no my surname isn't Purton that's my cousin. And I understand it's difficult to grow the game in Manchester when you have to compete against football but I personally have never seen any effort by Salford to promote the sport or even just their own games. An advertisement during the week in the M.E.N is surely do-able and as I already said giving free ticket away to people who have already paid for a game before can't be good for the club?? Theres 4 of us who have been 2 games for free (we paid for the friendly and SL games vs Wigan) this season even though we had every intention of paying on the gate before recieving the e-mail.

You really are a w1t aren't you.
You have been slammed down in every point you have tried to make but still come back for more.
For someone who supposedly dislikes Salford so much you spend lot of time on this forum.
The academy train in Bury as at one stage that was the only place they could.
We dont all have loads of money and purpose built facilities you know.
What is wrong with trying to get fans from other areas ?
You are a Wigan fan living in Prestwich and you went to a game on a freebie.
If you dont want the ticket offer you received then give it to someone else, we would welcome the extra support and who knows they may come back again.
Salford have had adverts both in the Salford Advertiser and the MEN and neither brought new fans in great numbers.
Wigan is RL town Manchester and Salford football its as simple as that.
Success also brings fans in and we have been sadly lacking in that front for a long time also.
Why dont you take of you blinkered glasses and look at the real world for once in your sorry life .

The scholarship is simply an extension of the club - it can train wherever it likes and usefully for us at Bury, they've formed a base at Philips. Training can be wherever and is simply an operational choice - just the same as open age structures at the club and at any other sports club - indeed, during a spell of bad weather this winter you'd have found Sedgley Park training at Burnage rugby club - doesn't mean they'd do community work in South Manchester (especially as they don't do any in Bury)!
You were taking about in school delivery, development work and so on. That is match-funded by the RFL (using Sport England money) as part of something called the Whole Sport Plan and that determines which clubs are responsible for development activity in which areas and also the funding allocated. The RFL determined that Bury, Bolton and Rochdale would be 'grouped' for practical delivery reasons and then delivery within that area split as Swinton covering Bury, Rochdale Hornets cover Rochdale and Leigh cover Bolton. The RFL also determined that Manchester/Salford and Trafford should be grouped and that was allocated to Salford.
That's why you wouldnt see direct in school work in Bury by Salford but again - they do do bits of informal work.
That is how its determined by the RFL. It's why Wigan do not do in school work in Bolton for example, even though it's next door to them. Leigh cover Bolton, Wigan cover Wigan and areas into Lancs like Chorley, St. Helens cover Knowsley and Liverpool and so on and so on...

| There is nothing stopping Salford though. Wigan go into Cumbria with summer rugby camps which is obviously not our patch and have put their own partnership together with Wales RL. Also I'm sure Salford have done work with Scotland RL, seem to remember reading about it in a programme from a Salford game this season. Or are we getting back to the point that a club like Wigan should be stopped from doing what they do just to make it fairer for other clubs?? NRL is a stronger competition because all clubs work to get to the same level as the strongest clubs they don't pull the top teams down to the lower level. The NRL are increasing their cap not lowering it.

Jesus Christ you are back again spouting $hite
Wigan can do camps etc because they have the money and the backing.
We just could not afford to do his so try to get people interested closer to home.
There are initiatives from Salford but they are not seen as it is not a high a profile club as Wigan.
The NRL
Have you ever been to Oz ?
In NSW and Queensland RL is equivalent to football over here.
They get 30K plus crowds in some stadia and routinely 15K + at others.
They get sponsorship Television and heaps of other funding streams.
They are on a different planet compared to RL over here.
Their cap works as shown by the different teams who have won the competition over the years.
The talk of increasing it is to stave off the threat of Union poaching players.
All clubs operate at full cap and there are huge penalties if you breech it.
If Wigan got the punishments handed out in Oz then they would be a Championship club now.
If the cap in the UK was increased (and this has been as stated to you many times) the top clubs would have there own little competition and the rest would just be also rans, that is obviously what you want.
Please now go back to your Wigan Board and talk $hite.

Do wigan do in school delivery in Cumbria? The answer is no.
Do Wigan do in-school delivery in Bolton even though its right next door? The answer is no.
They might do camps, and anyone can run commercial camps wherever they like (and that is what they are - they make money!). We (Bury Broncos) run camps in Bury and to be frank, wouldnt want anyone competing with those camps. We've run a camp every half term or end of term for the last 18months including last week.
The reason why Wigan don't do delivery in schools in Bolton as an example are as I explained - and as explained, there are reasons 'stopping' Salford doing development work in Bury, the delivery structures don't really allow it.
No offence - but you obviously are not close enough to what the rules on this are and are coming out with stuff that is simply wrong. If you'd like to learn more, come down and volunteer...there's a NWC 8 - 12s meeting this Tuesday, and I'm sure any of the Secretaries from any other North West clubs would explain how it all works and what is good/bad about the systems in place...or you could volunteer to help the U11s, U9s and U7s on Wednesday, or, the U15s and U13s on Thurs...
...when you've done that a while, then maybe you'd have a firmer footing on which to talk about how it all works and what can/cannot be done.
