I'm not surprised, would an experienced coach such as Noble or Kear be willing to work under someone with Simms reputation?

Goulding would do a Parish and open his mouth.

Vievers is a safe pair of hands and will be seen as a yes man, he wont be telling people to keep out of the changing rooms or telling certain players who are gloating on twitter to lose weight.

The club have shot themselves in the foot, again.

Quote: Solly "Hm, points conceded whilst Veivers was in charge 517 including a 60-0 loss to Wire at home, 52-20 at Cas and 52-22 at Shudds also got nilled at home off HKR, won 9 lost 11 or summat like that.

The wins included beating Wire on there home turf which was an obvious high point and smashing Bradford...unconvinced anythings gonna change really and we really needed it too this season.'"

If that's the case then Parish was the wrong man for the job as well.

Quote: N.K.O.T.T "One year deal seems sensible enough. Gives the club enough time to find a proper replacement for 2013 if he doesn't cut the mustard next year.'"

I do feel phil is a good coach and what he did last season while we were in a serious tailspin after mcraes departure was nothing short of a miricle from wooden spoon to whisper it finishing in the 8, if he performs simular miracles this season and gets us up bradfords backside and fighting for 8th then i'll personally start a petition to get a street named after him. how he didnt win club man of the year last season is beyond me, does he need to feed and nurse children back to health as well as turn our club around....
what concerns me is...

We need strong leadership from our football department (mr simms) and to give him a 1 year contract is in my eyes nothing short of a disgrace, yes they will point to the fact we dont want to be stuck with him like mcrae but it just stinks to high heaven that in 12 months time if Vievers hasnt pulled another rabbit of his magic hat and got us competing and higher up the table he will be binned and another "victim"/ coach will be employed.

what was needed from our football department (mr simms) was a two year contact one year for SS to train Vievers up in the areas as a coach he is unfamilar with (dealing with the media ect) the second year SS then reverts to "player and rugby welfare officer " organising offield duties for players and coaching staff BUT is below Phil when it comes to decitions on how the rugby club / playing side is run that means If phil cocks it up he gets binned and replaced with a more experienced coach

Which I agree with, but using his record when in the post temporarily to dismiss him is pointless and detracts from the argument.

Yeah thats why I also pointed out the wins he got whilst in charge, it could go either way but imho Salford will still be the same shower.

OK.
Now that Matt the prat has gone and Phil Veivers is the new Head Coach, that puts an end to all the speculation over the last few weeks.
He will be the Coach for the 2012 season at least and ,hopefully, earn the right to a further contract.
If he does that then we will have done well as a team so it would be good news all round.
As I say the speculation is over, nothing to be done apart from putting all our faith behind him and the team.
I have no idea whether he's a yes man or not,nor do most of the experts on here, but I really couldn't care less whether he is or not, provided we have the right results

Veivers appointment in some circumstances would be sound , but feels like another lost opportunity, I will support him now he's in charge, but this decision isn't going to move season passes or garner any credibility with the RL press.
