I am not sure about Adrian Lam. His St George U20's team aren't exactly setting the world on fire with just 3 wins from 8 this year. Would the club consider a British U'20's coach with a 30 odd percent win record? No the CV would go straight in shredding machine.

He also quit as national coach of Papua New Guinea just before the four nations without any explanation which is concerning. After all the recent coaching problems can our club really afford to appoint a head coach that takes his 'bat and ball home' without warning or reason at a crucial time? No!

Well, as you say, there was no explanation as to why he left the PNG job so to then go and suggest that he took his bat and ball home is just a tad ironic. However, overlooking this comment, I shall answer the first part of your question and say that over the past couple of weeks, Lam's Toyota cup side, in true Bennett fashion has gone back to basics and has started to win games. 3 on the bounce is possible and most probable this Friday.
www.dragons.com.au/default.aspx? ... y&id=36428

Also, when Bennett arrived before the 2010 season, many Toyota Cup players were either axed or promoted thus leaving what was a highly successful 2009 Toyota Cup side with a lot of rebuilding to do. If there recent form is anything to go by then I'd suggest that Lam appears to be doing a decent job. Best wait and see how he gets on over the next few weeks 'ey? icon_smile.gif

If he leaves a national coaching post without giving a reason for the decision it suggests to me he's left under problematical circumstances. Lam did receive a lot of criticism from many suggesting he should have quit after the four nations rather than deserting his players whilst in preparation for an International tournament.

I respect he's your choice but he wouldn't be for me sorry.

That is if he didn't give a reason. He may have done and it may have been kept under-wraps. Who knows? I would imagine that the PNG job is a tough task for any coach considering the sociological problems in PNG. It'd be pure conjecture to suggest anything specific but needless to say, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if there was more than meets the eye with the events leading to the impromptu resignation of Lam from the PNG job.

Since the four nations, there has been little to suggest that Lam lacks the longevity required for the new coaching job at Salford. However, as I've stated elsewhere, a wholesale change in the set up of the club, for me, is a neccessity. Simply signing a new coach will hardly make us the champion side we wish to be. Perhaps a debate best reserved for another day. icon_smile.gif

This is the reason.
But in May (2010) Lam made an emotional plea to the PNG Rugby League (PNGRL) to stop internal feuds, bickering and politicking other wise he would step down as Kumuls' coach.

In Sept 2010 he stepped down to ' focus on supporting the finals bid for his NRL team '

Halifax deny Noble reports:-
May 5th
Halifax have labelled reports linking the club with former Great Britain, Bradford and Wigan coach Brian Noble as "pure speculation".
The club have refused to comment on the rumours other than to refer to them as "pure speculation" in a statement on their website by chairman Michael Steele.

It was publisised that those problems were resolved long before he actually quit but who knows? If he wanted to make a statement he could have made a much bigger one by seeing the job through and leaving after the four nations.

The point I'm trying to make is can we afford to take a gamble on a coach that's shown a temperamental side to his nature having quit before due to issues with other people within the organisation? What Salford need now is strong minded coach that has the mental toughness to instill discipline and direction whilst providing some long term stability and progression within the club. Let's face it the Salford coaches job comes with pressure and stress and I just question if he is the right candidate to see it through if or when the chips are down. You only have to look at what happened to McRae with all his years of coaching experience.

This is a post copied from a PNG Sports forum on June 11th last year

As for Lam quitting, we dont need you anyway, your a disgrace. Every time you come up here you run around Lamana Gold Club drunk to your eyeballs acting like a teenager on heat. You didnt even want to know about PNG until the Australian selectors overlooked you.

You come up here with your big ideas and then you camp the local based KUMULS down at Goldie and feed them tin fish and rice whilst the Australian based players are sleeping at Crown Plaze and eating steak. Thats not how you coach a Team Mr Lam. you train them and camp them alltogether as a team. Then on game day you depend on your assistant coaches to get you out of the mess and make you look good.

We dont need Adrian Lam, we have John and Richard Wagambie ready and waiting. Those of you who forget, John Wagambie coached the most suscessfull Kumuls team ever. And he ate, drank and slept with the team.[/i

The General, say's in the M.E.N, we should be looking at a coach like Nathan Brown. Not somebody who
just wants to get experience, and whoever they get should sort the club out from top to bottom. We must be in a bad
way,If he's come to that conclusion,in four months,if that's the case,what has McRae and Simms been doing.Should'n
they have been doing that.

That would Salford through and through wouldn't it, turn a coach for the assitants role and then given the head coaches roll less than a year later.

For me the one dangerous aspect if Millward did get the job would be his friendship- with Simms. For me I could only see that leading to problems I'm affraid.

Has anyone got any indication which candidates have approached the club rather that the paper talk we keep getting? As the more I think about Dunneman the more I think he would be the ideal candidate but not certain if he has applied or not.
