In a word no. Gary Jack was the current golden boot winner (best player in the world) when he signed. Patten isn't quite that high profile, although its still a major major coup and one the club must be congratulated on. icon_biggrin.gif

Top signing. He will bring with him experience, intelligence and plenty of ability. Well done to the management.

No. Billy Slater is probably the Billy Slater of the day. However, Billy Slater is the cream of a rather unbelievable good crop of Aussie full backs so the comparison isn't quite the same. (Some pundits have Slater down as the greatest full back of all time.) (Slater, Hayne, Dugan, Coote and Patten have all been very good if not fantastic this year. All certainly better than anyone over here!)

Nevertheless, Patten is probably as good as Jack ever was.

Ryan Tandy has today signed an extension to his Canterbury contract for a further 2 years. So we can chalk him off the list.

Definitely looks like a quality player from the youtube clips of him.

How old is he?

30. But fear not as in my opinion, he's been a better player at 30 than he was at 29.

Meh, 30 isn't so old these days. Get a good couple of years out of him at that age. Fitzy must be nearing 30 now anyway?

I believe he is yes. Despite Mr Fitzy's undoubted enthusiasm, Patten is in a different league. (In more ways than one before the pedants chip in with a wisecrack. icon_wink.gif )

Garry Jack was a massive high profile signing. He was solid but for me didn't live up to expectations in attack. I think this was due to him playing in a struggling team and being such a marked man. Everytime Jack fielded the ball the opposition seemed extra determined to nail him as soon as they possibly could. Hopefully Patten will benefit more from the creative handling skills of Daniel Holdsworth.

Fair play to Holdsworth for talking the place up too.
