| Over the years I've seen many coaches come and go at Salford and I've also heard the phrase 'one man rugby' more times than I care to remember. Every coach we have gets rubbished by the majority of the fans eventually which always leads to putting pressure on the board to sack them. Then there are the players who aren't behind the door at deflecting critisim towards the coach when things are going badly on the pitch. It's a 2-3 year cycle!
The simple fact is the club have been financially handicapped since the mid to late 70's and are only able to compete at either the bottom end of the top division or the top of the next league down.
You just have to be realistic and understand that Salford's inability to compete at the very top isn't purely down to individual(s) at the club.
What this club needs to elevate it to the next level and stay there is a lot more money. In all fairness to the Chairman and the Directors they have been as generous as they can afford to be over the years but it's not enough to get us to the top.
This club desperately needs more wealthy individuals supporting it to the tune of about 500K every year to seriously challenge for major honours. The problem is these people don't exist so our only hope is for one or two to come along in the future.

| Quote: DogPie "There seems to be a lot of very blinkered folk on here with regards to what is going on at this club. McRae needs to go, it's as simple as that. Failing that, he needs a swift kick up the rear by the chairman to get his act together. He has lost most of the dressing room already. He turns up late for training. When he does turn up he has Scott Naylor and Andy Haigh conducting the training sessions while he stands around doing very little. Richie Myler would possbily stay if it wasn't for him being here. His only desire to leave is because he's learning nothing from McRae, and can't afford to waste the next 2 and a half years under a coach who gives him nothing. Apart from that, he likes the club. Jordan Turner is the same. He's sick of McRae too. There are other players in the team who want to leave, just because of him, and these are players that we would like to keep hold of, not the deadwood in the team who we are happy to see the back of. If anybody on here knows any of the the players on a level that they can talk and get honest answers, then ask them whether I'm right or wrong. I'll bet you a pound to a penny that they are in full agreement with everything I say.'"

| OUCH!
MCrae can be assertive but not aggressive - what defamatory comments have been made by people who it is worth sueing? Most of the unacceptable postings on here are from those (to use a legal cliche) "made of straw".
If this is more than a journo's hype, then it may be that DogPie may have some form of credence. However, DogPie, you need to support these allegations with sources or proof.
Remeber it is easier for a person to complain than praise so whinges from any player needs to be taken with care - is it sounding off or symptomatic of a malaise?

| Looking forward to going to big school?
Please note that, with only one training session before the next game, and that game involves a hurt Wakefield who want to do better in front of their fans, we could do with some unity in the camp.
Suddenly Friday looks miserable.

Excellent post, best I've read on here in ages.
I watched Bolton Wanderers be a bottom of Division 1/top of Division 2 team for a good number of years before they pushed on to challenge for UEFA cup places/cup finals.
The simple reason they pushed on was the injection of additional cash.
It's no coincidence that Bolton have dropped back to the bottom end of the Premiership since that money has dried up a bit.

This is what reaily winds me up about this club.
Players wallowing in self pity, you dont like Mcrae and his coaching style get advice on how to advance your game elswhere, Hunte, Naylor, Hay all good proffessionals who have performed at the highest level who would give their right arms to be able to play again at the level your at now.
If you are on you way out to another club and you dont care about what you as an individual can achieve between now and the end of the season then carry on move to your new club with a modest salary which could have been a little bit more if you had impressed your new employees with a performance or two towards the end of the season
The whole "im leaving because of Mcrae is rubbish", your going for the money boys we all know this, its begining to sould like another Harrison departure and player power winning again.

| if we get rid of McRae I'd have The Optimist as coach.
I imagine that at least his programme notes would make interesting reading

So i take it you are enjoying this season and are really looking forward to the game on Friday. Clearly Mcrae is the problem.
My personal opinion is he wants to get sacked so he can concentrate on sky sports work.

Well said
It's possibly the first time that SM's had coach and operate within such a tight budget.

Money is the biggest individual factor to success in professional team sport. As everyone knows when McRae was Saints coach he won both the Grand Final & Challenge Cup working with a much bigger player budget.
Let's face it you can't walk in a car showroom and expect to buy a new Ferrari for 20 grand. McRae's a rugby league coach that can only work with the players the club can afford, he's not a miracle worker!
