| Quote: chrismum "Please refer to individual post. I did say that I'm sure those that went had a great time and as a rugby league fan if I could have afforded it I probably would have done too. However I was actually trying to start an intelligent debate as to whether or not the weekend was a success or failure. If the idea behind it was for a bunch of rugby league fans to go and have a weekend away and watch some rugby that they would have watched anywayn then ok it was a success. If however, the more likely idea was to market and expand the game then I feel it was a failure. Don't feel like this is moaning or carping. I reserve the right to have my opinion. If you want to join the debate then fine but to say we had a great time so the debate does not stand is ridiculous.'"
Fair enough. What points then make you feel it was a failure?
In your last point I don't think anyone has actually said that?
The only measuring factor of whether it was a success or not will be next year. If the scottish take up on tickets improves then surely you would have to say yes?

I think this is one of the main sticking points. How can the RFL make it more appealing to get people to stay for more than their own game? Free tickets wouldn't work. The only thing I can really think of is much cheaper food and drink stalls

The winner of the mascot games gets to punch Cheggers in the face?

Better still all the supporters of the winning mascot get to punch him in the face

| Perhaps to pique the Yorkshire fans' interest we could have a parade of attractive cousins at half time?

| In answer to the origonal question i got to say it was a sucess.
I went and had a gr8 time. Really enjoyed the festival feel of the place. Has some gr8 chats with people i wouldn't otherwise have chatted to and got to se some games i would normally never have been able to se.
It's true that it didn't seem to expand the game much but all the scotts i chatted to (only 3 i admit) seemed to prefer league that union (inside and outside the ground) but didn't come because they were watching football!
According the the anouncement there were over 6000 locals there. I would guess that about half of those were new to the game.
I will def be there next year (if it's at murryfield again).

| Glad I went, many fans turn up for 'their' game & bugger are the inherent problem with this event, vast majority of fans are only interested in ' their game ' so as spectacle on telly it looks a failure. Also because the points count the playing style was on the whole defensive, not ' exhibition or attacking and didn't showcase the best attacking qualities of the game.
The City as a venue to visit is great, the weather was superb, and most people who went probably have good memories of the vist but the Rugby was forgettable.

3596.jpg this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

Agreed, for me it wasn't about the rugby, that was just a bonus and a reason to visit such a beautiful city. I went for 5 days and got back last night. I may never go to Edinburgh ever again as I prefer to travel to somewhere further afield but if anyone ever asks me whats Edinburgh like at least I can give a very informative and favourable view of it.
When I go to Perpignan, again it's not really for the rugby, its an excuse to get away from home for a few days but I'd swap it for Edinburgh any day of the week.
Success or not I don't care but I'd certainly rather spend the night in Edinburgh after a game than Castleford, Wakefield, Hull or just about anywhere else on the RL map!
Finally, I too only went in to watch Salford as there were far too many other things to do in Edinburgh than sit in a soulless stadium for another 4 hours then do more of the same the next day. I enjoy watching other teams play on Sky on a Friday and Saturday evening but that's about enough for me, why I would want to watch another team play live (free or not) isn't for me and I didn't even take another game in fully on sky the whole weekend, saw the second half of Saints versus Wigan and that was it.
Those who just went for the game on the day and came straight back home and those who didn't go haven't missed what they never had but believe you me, a weekend in Edinburgh is worth it, with or without RL.

But if you think it was a success then you are deluded.
Next year I can arrange a few games on the field outside my house, organise a barby and have loads of beer laid on.
I can even arrange hotels if you wish.
Scotland will never be a Rugby League area, End of.'"
Count me in P.R, i will have a bit of that

See. There you go. I'm not allowed to have an opinion. Despite the fact I'm also basing it on my outing to Cardiff. Still, we have to be positive about everything in Rugby League, don't we?
Coming soon - Moscow Magic to get more people out there interested in their RL sides.

Good point.
It would help if people watched some of the other games apart from their own instead of drinking outside the stands. I went out during a game for something to eat and there were more people outside than in.

| Quote: Diavolo Rosso "It looked terrible on television, awful. At least when it was at Cardiff you could hear something resembling an atmosphere on the TV.
On a weekend when the Rah-Rahs are filling Croke Park (82,000) and the getting 45,000 at Cardiff for two semi-finals getting a total of ~40,000 to Edinburgh for seven matches is abysmal. No wonder the paper and TV coverage was almost non-existent.
No matter how enjoyable the day(s) itself may be the event needs to be ditched or at the very least be moved to a much smaller stadium (Villa Park anyone?). Three years on and it has achieved nothing.'"
The reason is people like you not supporting it. The RU supporters are following their sport, it is your type that is making it abysmal.

Not a true RL fan then.
