| Well Pleased with that as he can also play centre.

| Wow I've always rated Gaskell. This deal sounds too good to be true doesn't it?
It mentions on the club website that he will be given the number 6 jersey but I thought that number has already been given to Ryan McGoldrick? What is happening with him?

| Pleased with that. Gaskell has looked good when I've seen him play, especially at centre. He has excellent footwork. Haven't paid too much attention to his defence so don't how that will stand up. A three-quarter line up of Broughton, Gaskell, Gleeson, Williams with Gibson, Nero, Evalds and McGoldrick (maybe?) in reserve has a reasonable look about it all of a sudden
Think Howarth has one a good job for us. Not a great player, had some good games, a few bad and mostly so-so but can't fault his effort and commitment so I'd thank him for his time here

Thought McGoldrick is 23? 6 and 1 are the only numbers in the back line free and he's not a full back. Be interesting to see whether he plays at stand off or centre especially while Gleeson is injured
I agree it's a smart bit of business

| Great signing.
With the bonus of offloading Howarth, the most underwhelming Salford player in a long time (and he was up against some stiff competition on that front)
Feels like we've just got away with ram raiding Langtree Park.

| Agree with the above really, Gaskell is a decent player and Howarth has been underwhelming to say the least. Not a bad deal at all

| Good luck to Gaskell.
He has heaps of potential and heres hoping he kicks on with Salford.
Could be a very, very good signing for you.

I agree. Any idea why he's been allowed to go on loan?

Because he out of contract end of season and refused to sign a new one

He won't be coming back to Saints - has fallen out of favour to the point that we're probably going to be playing young Charnock or perhaps Paul Wellens at 6 tomorrow in the derby.
Some say issues over a contract, some say attitude. Nobody really knows the truth but he has been underwhelming since 2011 and never really made a spot his own.
I think he'll do well for you, and I also think this will be with a view to a permanent deal for a few quid from the Doc.

With the loan deal being until the end of the season, and if as Saints4eva2013 says, Gaskell is OOC at the end of the season, why then would "the Doc" have to put pay to make it a permanent move?

| I think it's a decent short term deal for both Saints and Salford to be honest.
I have high hopes for Gaskell, and hopefully this opportunity to develop his game at Salford will improve him as a player - certainly better for him than sitting at home on a game day.
Howarth will do a job for us, and he is certainly better than the options we would have had. He's not a world beater, but at least he is a natural #9, and has experience in the position.

A natural 9? No he's not, he's a loose forward/second rower. PV tried making him into a hooker for some unknowen reason and it's not worked. You'll see that when he plays, he's not comfortable there at all.

| This is (on paper at least) the best swap we have done since Mick Worral went to Headingley and we got Phil Ford PLUS CASH in return
