It's a loan deal which tells you that Saints aren't prepared to let him go and want to keep their claws in him.

He will be the perfect foil for Ratchford and I think you have a terrific halfback pairing there. We've seen him at Widnes and I think he could be excellent for you.

Can see Smith moving to Hooker now and Malc 2 nd row. Still need a back up though so hopefully there are plans ahead for that.
One year loan means that maybe Palfrey will be given more game time next year as we will obviously need a replacement at the end of the loan.

I'm a big Smith fan and personally think he should be back with us. I like him as a better foil for Pryce than Eastmond.

Matty Smith was on loan at Widnes for second half of last season. You've got a good one there look after him or we'll have him back!!

Smart move this, he's a decent player and can play in positions we need to strengthen for next season. If we're looking to bring in lads of this quality and age for next year then I'm more than happy.

A good signing on our part. He is a very good young, English player and is exactly the type of signing that we need to be making. I cant believe he didnt get more of a chance at Saints.

They're both halfbacks but Moore has been on loan for two years and next year Kieron will either leave us or will be playing his last year for us, so it is a good opportunity for Moore to learn more about the role or become our replacement for Kieron. We have a clutch of halfbacks at present. We have yet to see much of Jamie Ellis, who like Matty is an organising scrum half. Also like Matty he is a good kicker, both in-field and goal. I don't know much else about Ellis, but Matty is also very cool under pressure and leads well around the park. He helped us to the Grand Final in 2007 but unfortunately rather than allow him to play in the Grand Final, Anderson chose to bring back a not yet fit Longy.

Had we not valued Matty Smith, we would have let him go as we have other loanees in the past. However, he's clearly still on our radar. It seems to be Saints' policy to allow only a year long loan at a particular club. I know that Jon Dixon was desperate to keep Matty and I feel sorry for the Crusaders just now as they seem to be losing players all over the place.

Still. He will do a good job for you and hopefully, with the other emerging talent you have in your side, both Salford and Matty will benefit from his time with you. With Eastmond having the same agent as Myler, and rumours already circulating that he isn't committing to Saints, we may well need him back in a year's time.
