I 100% agree with that and that is exactly how I feel as well, couldn't have put it better.
This Friday was the first home game I've missed in lord alone knows how long and I can honestly say I didn't miss it. That alone upsets me'"
You can sign me up as well. There used to be a sense of perverse enjoyment in taking pride in the club and our city despite the failings they both clearly have. Now it just feels like out-and-out masochism.
Looking around the Super League though it seems that most clubs are in decline. Celtic are showing all the signs that they won't last the course, Hull KR are one cock-up from disaster judging by the size of their debts. Wakefield are in trouble as usual. Quins are still going nowhere. Leeds seems to have stagnated through lack of competition and Saints are knackered now their golden generation has gone. Bradford are in reverse and Wigan are treading water. The only teams you could argue that seem to be solid are Huddersfield and Castleford.
The quality of rugby on display is terrible as well. I can't remember the last truly entertaining game I saw. And what has happened to the star players? I remember always being able to watch one or two really talented players who could do something special every week, no matter who was playing. Players that you'd get excited about the prospect of seeing like Alfie Langer. I can only think of two players in the whole of Super League that I'd actually specifically watch a game to see at the minute; Kyle Eastmond and Brett Hodgson.

| I was as disapointed & annoyed as most on Friday , the overall performance was not up to Super League standard , positional play was inept , and the team was ' out enthused ' and tactically outplayed by a team that had only been together less than two months and had played no pre-season games. I applauded the visiting team because they played well and were worthy of some respect, I suspect this applause alone would have been humiliating enough for our team, to boo afterwards was just plain puerile.. I was gutted, fuming, I had invited new potential supporters to the game and put them through an excruciatingly bad 80 minutes, and not even the prospect of a free band , comic etc would tempt us back into the Willows , we had to get out of there.
I bought my membership/season ticket even though I had reservations and sensed it wasn't a smart move by the club at this economic time.
I remembered the first game last season when we just managed to beat the Crusaders due to a good twenty min start. they came back strongly and we just edged the win , this was followed by a run of six losses where we shipped in 253 points ...
We have a team with a new half back pairing , new backs and for whatever reason less experience without Wilshere, Stapleton etc . Look at Bradford, they have brought in higher profile NRL ' Stars ' but are still coming to terms with changes in key personel.. so be prepared for more let downs.
I saw potential in Dan holdsworth whose 70 odd minutes was in some repect a silver lining.
I'll be at Leeds on Friday supporting our team, we are Salford Supporters thats what we do.

| I am also very unhappy with the way are club is going, I did not boo & think with a young set of players we will also destroy there confidence before they have had chance to shine.
I have renewed my season ticket yet again & attend both home & away fixture each week.
A lot of good points have been raised on how best to tackle the decline of our club & boy is it in decline but to do nothing before it is too late in my opinion is not an option.
I am on the side of those fans who do not want to bury there head in the sand, I believed before the season started we would be lucky to finish 4th from the bottom but after Friday that may be a bit too optimistic.
I don't have the answers but some of the passion shown on the forum we should be able to turn into positives.
Maybe we need a fans meeting to air some of the views on the way forward to help the club, I also understand some fans views that we will need to take a the short-term pain before moving forward but it is a catch 22 situation we cannot & will not attract fans serving up this kind of dross. Over the years I have introduced quite a few & thankfully our group is still going strong, but for how much longer?
I have never felt so depressed at some of the comments from fans who have been regular contributors to the forum who have now stopped coming to matches, if we cannot keep hold of these active fans what chance do we of attracting new ones?
My final comments are the club do not help as they help feed the negitive feeling by never contributing to updating the fans or encouraging us, you only need to look on the official web page.

| Quote: Michigan red "In my eyes no are not. And I would suggest that a great many other true fans will agree.
A real fan would never try to undermine the confidence of the team. What other outcome would you expect to arise from booing the players?, is it to motivate them to greatness?'"
What a load of tosh. These players are paid professionals and what they produced on Friday was utter garbage. Fans are entitled to voice their opinion and booing is an outlet. The players and coaches need to know it is unacceptable what we saw on Friday. If the players get upset by a bit of booing then are they man enough to be playing rugby.
Put it another way if you paid someone to work on your house and they did a crap job would you not say anything because that is what you are saying to all intents and purposes.
I have followed Salford since 1974 though the great times and the bad. Friday was a disgrace. All the excuses about it being early season, "takes times for combinations to gell" don't wash. We were playing Crusaders, a side thrown together in a matter of weeks and yet they were far superior in every aspect of the game to Salford.
As for real fans keep singing may I suggest that real fans are far too numb and gutted to formulate any response.

| I didn't boo. I never have done. I just walked out and went back to The Chandos with 20 mins to go and enjoyed a pint.
I just couldn't watch any more.

Yep, we as a group of supporters (notice i didnt say fans) need to shake ourselves and get back on side.
I dont agree in long term booing, the message has to be clearer. but ill say i was shouting "what a load of rubbish" at the end because it was and its a message which needed to be heard by the players, the players are creatures of habbit and they will look into the crowd at their usual spot and look for what our reactions to their performance just like a child looks at their parents to see if they have done good, i also didnt clap them off i did my usual when im upset about the performance of the lucky sods who have the chance and the ability to wear the red shirt i pointed to the tunnel, the usual suspects looked up and trudged off to our new tunnel knowing they'd let me personally and themselves down, if i do see them at leeds i know they will look again and ill give them my honest opinion, at Hull kr i did a hand sakey "it was alright" movement they understood.
These rough hooligan fans we keep banging on about are just that fans, they dont get behind the boys its all anti yorkshire or anti scouse its nothing positive and need to led into supporting the team, unfortunately with our supporters dwinndling due to absence, boring mind numbing play and relocation around the ground the supporters in the shed dont have the vocal muscle we once had.
Id be happy moving down the shed and start again, but you have to remember people stand down that end for a reason and might not like some of our "crazy bonkers" element turnin up and making a racket.
I agree with Mr Rossi and the red preacher there was a time when we just backed the team to the hill week in week out regardless what was goin on behind the scenes, its 80 minutes of love thats all we can give after that on the way home you can cry like a baby if you like but supporting the red shirts regardless of how bad they perform will get that extra 10% out of them which imo can be the difference between victory and defeat.
you dont have to sing the songs to be a supporter, positive attitude = positive results, im sure a few positive shouts will make you and the players feel better.
After all that i might now go to leeds

I was with Pev and also didn't boo as I'd retired as well, to be honest they wern't worth a boo I'd rather save my boo's for a worthwhile cause.

| Quote: Fatboys Limb "Being a poor side, or turning in a poor performance, doesn't mean having to be booed constantly.'"
Whilst I agree that booing is a bit turd (who the hell stands there shouting 'boooooooooooo' anyway? It just sounds stupid!) you can't really equate Friday night to a poor performance only. There was just a distinct lack of effort or urgency from Salford - most of them looked as if they didn't really give a monkeys about the game. In that instance, it's no surprise that people do get irate.
Contrast with the defeat at Hull KR the previous Sunday and the reaction by the travelling supporters then. The team were clapped off. Because we'd seen a bit of effort and pride, we'd just been outdone by a better side. Friday was a completely different kettle of fish.

You know, it's believed by many prominant intellects that we often show aggression to the one's we love or are attracted to. You've pretty much just given GT a dead arm and looked at him through the corner of your eye with an adoring but coy and slightly embarassed smile on your face...
Not that I'm suggesting you're a "ginger haired w**kstain" GT.
