My point was that many teams have a big pack, as opposed to just Bradford in the late 90's. of course it's important to have a big strong pack but to say this is the only requirement for success is an oversimplification. I'm fairly sure Greg Eden and Danny Brough would agree with me too.

My thoughts entirely. Wouldn't moan if he was appointed but would feel a tad underwhelmed.

| The bigger and more aggressive the pack the more room to move the backs behind them have.
I'd guess if we had Nobles Bradford pack playing for Salford last season our back line would have got us a decent top 8 finish.
The more I think about it the more I think Noble is being courted as he has a decent record in knock out rugby and that the Doc sees a tilt at the cup as the best chance of early results.
Guess the question is would we as fans like to see hard earned grafting wins on a regular basis or a team trying to out score the opposition with a lower win ratio for a good couple of years.

Stop messing about. Look at your results this season to date. Whilst you have only played 7 games how many of those defeats could you have turned into wins? I, hand on hart can't see you winning the cup unless the draw is unbelievably kind and you play championship teams throughout the competition.

I don't recollect stating that only a big pack was needed.

Makes you wonder if something else is going on. So yes, I think you may be barking up the right tree.

| Think having Smith and Noble could be a great ticket for us. Not sure how Koukash could sell it to them as a duo though. Big wages and a decent contract might be one incentive...

Someday, somewhere, today’s empires are tomorrow’s ashes.: |
|
| According to Radio Manchester, Brian Noble will be at the game tonight.
It's beginning to look like he's the man.

| This is interesting isn't it? The Doctor said he would be honored to have a coach like Noble and I’d have thought Brian Noble must surely be itching at an opportunity to transform a club like Salford especially knowing the club has the funds now to help him achieve that. Add to this Noble is available and it’s unlikely to be an issue over affording him and it makes you wonder what the delay is?
Perhaps Graham Lowe is still talking with some potential candidates in Australasia and the process hasn’t been completed. I wonder if the Dr’s comments were genuine and encouraged by being live on BBC radio in Noble’s company . . . or there is a plan to appoint another high profile coaching figure like Brian Smith to work alongside Noble in an effort to try and create the best coaching setup in RL.

| Assuming that Brian Noble is the main choice, the delay could just be over contract negotiations.
Brian Noble came across really well on Radio 5 (but then he is very good on TV and radio), but I was still a bit surprised by the doctor's comments about it being an honour to have him as coach. Does this mean minds had already been made up, or was he just backed into a corner by the show's host (who seemed to struggle with the fact that we're called Salford City Reds: all three words, in that order, not some random combination of two or more of them)?

I can't see it being a contract issue. I'm sure the last thing Noble would want is to price himself out of it in the knowledge there is a long line of other candidates wanting this job.

It's not necessarily money (I mean, thanks to experts on this very forum, we know the doctor hasn't really got any), but matters like appointments of other coaching staff, player recruitment, that kind of thing.

| Just think its a bit of coincidence that smith was reported on boots n all as being our next coach and on the same evening via bbc 5 live the Dr although being sat along side noble mentioned he has got all the right credentials for being our next coach very intriguing times to say the least
