| FWIW I don't really see an issue with getting excited and talking "Fantasy Signings". 6 months ago we were all fearing that we wouldn't even be talking about SCR as a whole, let alone being loaded with arguably the most succesful SL era coach joining us. Too long we've been a laughing stock and this is now going to stop, supporters of other clubs will fear us soon and it's going to be great. Let's be boisterous for once. Salford Reds are rising.

I agree that it's brilliant looking at what we are 'worrying' about now compared to what we were worried about 3 months ago but I just don't want to see us embarrassed. Some of our fans are marching round other boards shouting the odds about what we are/aren't going to do and if we aren't careful we will become Wire mark II. I'd rather we just went about our business quietly (as quiet as you can be with Koukash) and let matters take care of themselves instead of bigging ourselves up without really knowing what is going to happen.

Wilkinson confirmed what Chico has said there at Pendleton church.

I thought he just said we spent £400k more, he didn't say we spent full cap, and like Lincoln's Devil Fan, I don't think we did.

| Correct, he did only say that the wage bill had been increased by £400k for the last season at The Willows and that level had continued.

| Granted, they may have been £50,000 short.

Just re-checked my notes from that night, you're correct. I blame Joey Holt.

| Quote: Chico "Just one point of note
Chico
I'll have to check the recording of the meeting on the 17th Dec ,
My recollection was Wilkinson admitted committing to players contracts 400,000 over what they would normally have spent , ie additional signings extra-over over the length of their contracts , not per season , the asumption was these ' better' players would in turn deliver Salford a higher ( top 8 league position ) , and increased gates & sponsorship in the run up to the stadium move that would pay off this increased liabilty . they didn't so
this plan failed spectacularly and as they say the rest is history ...
I don't recall Wilky using the term ' full salary cap ' just significantly more than they had previously spent . the recording is 2 hours long and 1 hour 59.30 ,mins of it is depressing.

Must be as we've agreed contracts with 10 players. 4 apparently world class.

| Think we all need to calm down a bit. Let's see what we end up with before we start shouting from the roof tops. Those that shout without knowing who we will be able to bring in could be heading for a fall. Listen to what the Doctor says, particularly about increased salary cap, this gives me an indication that even spending the salary cap does not guarantee world class signings. As for spending an extra £400k a couple of years ago, yes we did, but was still about £200k off max. Most we ever spent is correct, wisest we ever spent? Don't think so.

Similar promises were made at Hull, and look who we ended up with!

| Perhaps our first signing needs to be Warrington's accountant.

| Does anyone have any documents from the Council's public inquiry into the stadium? Along with a number of other titbits that came out, which sparked Salford Star's obsession with Wilky, I seem to remember one of arguments for building a then ‘self-sufficient’ stadium was that Salford were spending £600,000 below the salary cap (which then would have been £1.8m). And, of course, spending up to the cap would, theoretically, make the club more prosperous. Now let's spark some wild assumptions — this is an internet forum after-all.
Unless Salford chopped their wage bill significantly after relegation and promotion in 2007/8, which is possible, £1.2m + £400k = £1.6m; £50,000 short of the cap (bar the £100,000 extension for special cases). I could have, of course, imagined all this. However, the language used regarding the so-called ‘robust’ business plan intimated that Salford would a squad on less that what they had done previously, certainly in the licence era, to help turnover a small profit. Was £1 million mentioned at some point? I also seem to recall Eddie Hemmings prattling on about Wakefield’s 2012 squad being run on a ‘shoestring’ budget of £1 million, hitherto unheard of in the licence era... apparently.
