| Hancock was a fantastic winger one of the best ever, but wouldn't of made the Aussie national team whilst playing for Salford, where as Garry Jack at Salford would of. Jack was the best signing we ever made Hancock wasn't...

| What are so many of us to disagree with you?
I agree we never saw the player as when he was at his best but he still played well and better than many he faced.

Got to be honest I was disappoined with Garry Jack because I felt he was a marked man in an average team. For me despite the odd calamity I thought Steve Gibson was far more dangerous with ball in hand and probably cost the club less than half of what they paid Jack.

Fair comment.....my opinion differs, I just think there's been far to many 30 odd year olds what have signed for us and not been successful acquisitions especially in the three quarters with the exception of Jack......

Still say that Patten was the best attacking full back I've seen at the club, know many don't agree but think of of all the players who won't starting next season he will be the one most missed.
Getting sidetracked though, Gleeson if he keeps his nose clean will be an asset I just have serious doubts he will be able to do that and that as a result Long might have a bit of a relapse.
Think the club would have been better trying to get player for Moon rather than money, not sure how that would have worked with the new owners in the offing but would have seemed like a much better option for the club.

Sorry I was thinking more about players from the past. As for Patten I couldn't disagree but I thought his second season was a big improvement on his first.

Pattens defence and positional play puts him way down the list for me....
The way he linked in the attacking line was fantastic no doubt

| Anyway Jack was only 27 when we signed him. He wasn't even in his 30's..
So who is the best over 30 three quarter signing For us, not many stick out. That's why I think Gleesons a gamble

First season utter $hite, second season maybe 8 games where he decided to play then back to utter $hite.
Way way way down any list of great players at Salford

| Can't win eh?
If any Salford fan could not remember Hancock (From those that were around) I'd say you need to take off the thick NHS glasses, unstrap the blinkers and instead of making feeble back tracks on an original question just admit that he was good for us in his 30's.

| Typical Butcher
Slagging off people who have a different opinion than you as Walshovski pointed out.
In my book Fata Sini was better in a Salford shirt.

He was in his late 20's when he came over from Balmain on a off season contract in 87 , at that time he was DallyM Fullback of the year & the previous seasons recipient of their golden boot award . it was akin to us signing Billy Slater for play for us for 4 months today.
however he did play for us in his 30's 5 odd years later in the 90's as player Manager so he still qualifies as a 30's signing I guess.
others not as many as you think given our Dad's Army signing tag:-
Michael Hancock -32
Willie Talau -33
Steve Hampson - 34
Andy Johnson - 30
Alan Hunte - 32
Peter Williams - 30
Mark Johnson - 30
Martin Offiah - 34
Luke Patten -31
other these Frank Wilson from the late 70's side, the ex Saints Welsh centre who was in his 30's when he signed for us and was still class
