| My husband is serving with the fusiliers out in Afghanistan at the moment and for selfish reasons the minutes silence would have been hard for me. We have lost 4 from the regiment in 24 hours including one who's wife I am friends with. I did not know this lad but it makes it doesn't make it any better.
However, when Princess Diana died we held a minutes silence that afternoon (a sunday so not chance of post or emails to an office). I can't believe that any match official or the opposing team would have any objections to this happening and I think it is a poor show that these things cannot be done. As has been mentioned previously surely a phone call or email would be enough. If the RFL insist on letters being written then maybe they should be spending their time a little more wisely and sorting the game out instead of putting obstacles in the way of clubs paying their respcts to people in this manner.

| If the club cant do it in time ,then let us the fans try by our selfs, as soon as the whistle blows for the game to start then lets all stand for one minute silens, ok not everybody will know about it but them that come on here will and just pass the word once in the ground what we planning to do, make one or two banners if it can be done in time that is explaning what were gonna do, i would even foot the bill, if not that then give out leaflets telling people that as one of our local lads has died and we as supporters are gonna hold a minuets silence, what you all think

Sorry , just read it back looks like not enough full stops and comers,( takes deep breath) also would just like to add that the club are not at fault with this, its not there fault that red halls have so much red tape.

| This is a nice idea although I think with a supporter led thing a minutes applause or a song/chant of some diescription would be more effective. Getting word out about a silence would be hard going. I actully think the club could speak to the match official and have a word in a case like this. Or even put in a phone call to the RFL. Let's face it who is going to refuse on the grounds that it is not in a letter. Smacks of apathy to me I'm afraid. OK so maybe the RFL do have this stupid way of going about things but there are ways round it if you are bothered enough. Lets be honest with the recent bad press the game has had would they say no this and risk it getting out. I don't think so.

But would it not be just as hard to get a minutes applause, or eeven harder a song to put together, i know what your saying though, but would be nice if we could get most if not all fans doing somthing together, maybe it is to late for friday, but will hold my minuutes silence before ko

| Fatboys Limb asked the question and BBM came up with the answer. Lets not have a pop at Shirl over this... it's not her decision... she's passing on information... simple.
The club are abiding by the rules set by the RFL... but whichever way you look at it... it stinks that they can't sort it out.
Give me the job of arranging it... I'll do it in my lunch hour
I would personally find a minute silence for Simon really hard because I know him... but looking at the bigger picture...this is a soldier from Salford who died for his country and should be remembered by the people of Salford for doing so. We are supposed to be a family and a community club... funny way of showing it. We have a minutes silence to remember those who fell for the country every year... surely one more minute isn't too much to ask for a local lad who died a hero.

3596.jpg this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

| I'm not having a go at BBM. She's just the messenger. This could be done - like I said previously it was done for Princess Diana and she had no links to Salford at all. Its not difficult. Email, telephones - wonderful inventions and the RFL would not refuse permission. Time we got rid of the ridiculous red tape and got it sorted.

| I am also not having a go at Shirley, after all she is only quoting what the RFL stipulate. However it is still indefensable for the club and the RFL not to arrange this.
Instead of the Red Hot flames (as someone has mentioned earlier) we should have it then.Put it on the scoreboard that it will happen and put notices up at all entrances to the ground that it will happen at that time, now what is hard about that.
We must show appreciation to what our soldiers are doing over there.

| I'll be there on Friday and I think it would be a disgrace if the minutes silence won't be held because of red tape bull$h1t. I think the club should do all they can whether they have the nod from the RFL or not. I mean are the RFL really going to do punish us if we do it? Even they couldn't be that insensitive and I don't think they could do with anymore bad light being thrown on the game at the moment.
RIP Simon

Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

Wakefield weren't able to arrange a minute's silence at such short notice when they were in the same position a few weeks ago.
