In my opinion he wasn't as good as Myler or Robinson or Clinch etc. and we managed to move on from those.

As others have said, Smith's staying or going will not make any difference to our very slim chances of making the eight. So, it WILL give us an opportuninty to try out Sneyd or give us more time to plan for a replacement....Oh and a little bit more money to boot.

I can not fault Matty for his effort in his time at Salford, but he hardly ever broke the line and his decision making at times was awful.
He can thank Salford and in particular SL for this move.
Ratchford was a bigger loss and we do have options.

How is are club moving forward no wonder are club will never challenge. For anything. You need ambition to get crowdss not smile when a big cheques as they come along. Selling Matty smith says to me we are just in league to make up the numbers. What is the chances that will be waisted and don't spend it on replacements. He was going at the end of the season anyway, because a club with more fans and more money could offer him a better contract and a better chance of winning a trophy. If Salford can make some money by releasing him early, then it sounds like sensible business to me.

Get a grip, we're talking about Matty Smith. He's not the messiah, he's an average srum half! Who on earth will we find to kick the ball down the oppositions throat, continually miss tackles and run at the line rarely trying to break it.

There's no way he's even close to having Dunemann's, or even Robinson's, influence.

For me , its not a case of losing a great player , cos I dont think Smith was that great. I just feel angry that we cant seem to keep hold of players and the big teams just seem to take them at will !!. [perhaps sour grapes

Unfortunately it's never going to change unless the club gets some new investment or our crowds increase by about 2,500 - 3000 a match. The easy thing is identifying the problems the extremely hard part will be finding realistic solutions. Could things be done better? I would imagine so but enough to stop us being a feeder club? I don't think so.



Good question. My guess is Salford will continue to pay him and Wigan will reimburse Salford.
