Salary cap - you're havin a laugh.: |
|
| With all due respect to Michigan Red, he seems to posting more about benefits to himself rather than any benefits to Salford regarding this move. Mainly because there is nothing to benefit Salford. Sale are the only ones to benefit.

I do see that pressure will be lifted from the club as to the profitability of the stadium. The more money generated from other revenue streams the quicker the whole enterprise becomes profitable.
If both Salford and Sale put pressure on the stadium management company then the likelyhood of the fans getting a bar onsite increases.
Even a brief look at how Sale are run would show even the most blinkered person they are much more professional, if even a tiny bit of this professionalism rubs off on the people running Salford it would be an improvement. While they might not physically be sharing offices onsite you can bet that there will by necessity be a certain amount of interaction between both clubs.
And I do honestly think that the RFL will look at Sale moving in with some trepidation (rightly or wrongly) and might feel compelled to assist Salford more with it's marketing and operating procedures.
And though I like Friday night games if Sale are playing home games on Fridays at the end of their season and the start of ours Salford might contemplate moving to a more traditional Sunday afternoon kick off which if what you read on here is correct would be most peoples prefered choice.

| Maybe we should change our name to the Salford Sharks to appeal to Sale supporters. I never liked the name City Reds anyway. That was only an attempt to appeal to City and United fans anyway--------and that didnt work....

The sharks moniker is taking the michael. The damage has been done Salford are in freefall, rebrand the name to whatever, the fact of the matter remains. Until a new regime has been inserted a shlt is still a turd.

3596.jpg this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

| Whilst clutching at straws, as I understand that there were objections about the stadium being built resulting in a public enquiry and that there were concerns from local residents, was it passed that the stadium can operate 12 months of the year allowing for a professional sports team to play a game there virtually every week?
Bet some of the local residents are non too pleased.?

It had nothing to do with football, more to do with the RFL wanting all SL teams to be in a city, hence the reminder that Salford is the older city

| If any one should be changing their name it should be sale.
Salford sale Giants or Greater Manchester Wanderers.
They have progressed as a club massively since the old days when they played at sale. It would be interesting to see where there supporters live in comparison to us. I would say most of our supporters either live or have a link to the city of Salford.

| From the conversations I have had with Sale fans:
north Cheshire (as far away as Crewe) to south Manchester (especially the Didsbury/Heatons areas).
Oh, re a long away posted query, many have been to Rugby League matches and most of these have been to Salford.
Different sport. But rugby.

| Also, if we are looking at the name, Sale are probably rebranding only to Sharks. The idea is to market and advertise as applying to all of the north-west up to beyond Preston.
Should go down well in Chinatown.

Allow me to help.
I'm a Sale Sharks fan living in Stockport.
I started watching them in 2003 when they moved to Edgeley Park.
The fans come from a pretty diverse area.
The lads I sit with are all from Stockport, we used to play rugby together.
The folks behind us travel up from south Cheshire.
The vast majority seen to be north Cheshire, Didsbury and the Heatons.
I know some people (season ticket holders) who travel down from Cumbria and others from the Fylde coast.
I think the furthest south season ticket holders come up from just south of Stoke.
East from Leeds and west from Bangor (the Welsh one !)
Many are involved in amateur rugby in the area, playing/coaching/refereeing, which is why we like Friday games.
I sincerely hope we'll all be able to rub along nicely together.
Some of the tension between Sharks fans and County fans stemmed from them not being able to draw a line between Brian Kennedy his holding company (Cheshire Sports) who own and run Edgeley Park and the ordinary everyday fans, who wished them every success both on and off the pitch.

Not a chance would i rub along with you lot, tell me why your lot would move to stockport and rub that proud football club into the ground, tell me why you lot won`t try to RUB my club into the ground.Your club as no affinity with Salford ,so why come here,in my eyes and my fellow Reds who go with me you are not wanted here.

| mousey - well done have grasped my point exactly
WE, THE SUPPORTERS did none of the things rumoured by the County fans - we just supported our team
Any genuine argument would be with Cheshire Sports, Brian Kennedy or Brendan Elwood.
Brendan is the man who sold to Kennedy, retaining valuable assets which he then rented back to County.

| I think it was only ever a matter of time before Sale moved in. Although only rumours, I remember hearing them back when we were supposed to be moving in 2006. I'd rather they didn't move in, because I feel that any potential new supporters, to either code, will end up watching Sale rather than us - and we definitely need all the new support we can get.
However, I don't think Sale moving in will be the be all and end all of Salford RLFC. The biggest threat to our existence is indeed ourselves, poorly ran from the top down. If we were a Wigan or Warrington for example, I don't think a Union team moving in would be such a big deal.

I don`t like the way your sport operates,MIKEY,in my eyes your team and chairman took County for a ride, took that ground off them, what right did your club have to do that, your club as now thrown Stockport to the Wolves, ashamed, are you eck, ashamed about going to south africa in the height of apartheid, when every other sport had stopped going there, are you eck, ashamed about banning anybody from playing rugby league from even entering your clubhouses never mind playing your so called sport, appeasement with Nazis that rugby league should be banned everywhere in France and all their clubs should be burnt to the ground, all their assets stripped from them, and you want me to rub up to you lot,not a chance,i despise you lot for what you are, ashamed now,are you eck.
