not exactly a large club yourself with your 3000 fans and 12th in league
btw I wasn't having a dig I was just stating fact that this marquee signing will never ever materialise on the fact it is open to exploitation.
As I have stated and even a monkey could understand the facts to my post its not rocket science salary cap exempt player = exploitation of the cap.
Do you seriously think the doctor wouldn't do as I've suggested if he could get away with it???

| RFL are dinosaurs who in the right mind would not like to see players such as Greg Inglis or a Paul Gallen live. It puts bums on seats and also raises the profile of the sport.

Well the doc could sign them if the didn't want to join solely for money... but who would want to join Salford other than to get nice pay day??
though Locke was a marquee player anyway but forgot that he couldn't a game in the NRL that's why hes at Salford
also he will be getting a nice payday

You're quite correct about the potential for exploiting the marquee signing rule when it's finally introduced.
It will need to be policed to avoid the examples you gave.
It's quite capable of being policed, though, like all the other rules,eg salary cap

| It must be nice to be able to afford to take a job on less money just for the love of it.
Or in reality are professional rugby league players like the rest of us who strive too earn as much as possible to provide for our families future.

It's not the RFL, it's the owners of the clubs who don't want to or can't afford to spend more money. I do understand because these are people that have been very charitable to RL and their clubs and they simply don't want to get left behind.

thanks for the reply that didn't involve my small club against yours etc. etc. like most that happen on here between Cas and Salford indeed I have been guilty of it myself but today im here for a friendly discussion as I think I have a valid point.
could you please tell me how it can be policed as I fail to see it..
the salary cap is a black and white issue
this marquee signing is a whole grey area that I carnt see being policed
basically I see it as the doc is trying to get around the salary cap with the help of the other owners with millions in the bank.
and the clubs like Cas Wakey ect who are on the bread line are blocking it and the rfl for the reasons I have stated,
they know they could never police it, instead of the marque rule they may as well just up the cap by 1mill a year then they could police it to an extent but clubs like cas wakey ect would suffer as a consequence that's why it wont happen

| Salary cap , BLACK AND WHITE ISSUE , do me favour, certain clubs have been flouting the rule for years and been getting away with it, by cooking the books, job for wives etc,

| btw for what its worth I think you will go a lot better next year I locke looked class the other day and will get a lot lot better MCB is also a very good signing was hoping we would get him
but also don't think you should have signed Dobson think you should have kept Syned as he is 1 of your own (fantastic player he is World class in 2-3 years if Radford doesn't ruin him) very sad we couldn't sign him but Ben Roberts coming in he could be a very good signing imo

Could the contract of the marquee player be paid via the RFL. The club transfers the money to the RFL and then they pay the player. Involve the RFL as a third party in the contract negotiations?

I've said that before, another idea I thought of was if say a club paid £500,000 for SBW the club paying that type of money would need to commit to spending the same amount of youth development.

could do that but if there is no limit to what can be payed for this player as its not on the cap would it matter if the rfl was there or not
like I say the doc could pay £3mll for 1 season
then £52 per season for 2 more years but the £52 would count on the cap lol cheap player that is still marquee
then the next player comes ect ect in 15 years the full cap could cost 3k lol
the RFL could be there but there hardly going to follow he players and the doc around to make sure no gentlemanly agreements for year 2-3 are going on
and if there is no limit on what can be payed for the said marquee player its open to exploitation as ive stated
and if there is a limit then they may as well just extend the cap by the said amount..
or he could just do what red in buxton says and pay Mrs slater and Mrs Inglis £1mill for working 6hours a week in the club shop

Surely when the RFL audits the accounts of the clubs they will smell a rat if a former marquee player is on a very small contract?
