Reading between the lines (as I can't be d reading the whole thread or openning another window) is somebody seriously requesting people to raise £25.00 and walk to the new stadium to watch a non event, just so they can say they had the privilidge of attending the first openning and game of the new stadium?

I'm sure even Jeremy Beadle couldn't have thought that up or that indeed Dick Turpin is still alive?

P.S. If I'm to assume the money is being raised for charity fair do's to the charity, I hope they get plenty. Sorry I won't be donating.

The salford foundation moved the date to the 27th FROM the 28th

I`m not doing the walk so it matters little to me,but besides the web site there are conflicting dates on the stadium fb page so some one needs to be pulling their finger out..

One also says that you need to raise £25 for one and the other costs £50, do you get a discounted BOGOF rate for both

I think , £ 15 per single entry donation - £25 Family would have been reasonable ,

I've run 3 10k's so far this year for recognisable charities like MS & Alzheimers Soc and to be honest raising sponsorship for them was a slog .
I'm not looking forward to asking for money to wander down Liverpool rd. to watch an academy game I would normally see for free at the old place , I'd need to run it for anybody to sponsor me .

Also this begs a question , does the ground have undersoil heating ? how can they be certain it will be fit for play in December after the last two heavy winters we've had?

Well after mulling it over, I've signed up. The Foundation do a hell of a lot of good work plus it's a chance to get into a match with a load of other people paying for me.

I take a more pragmatist view, and then again, I could see this turning into a pub crawl and not getting to the stadium at all, I remember a number of years back we used to walk down Liverpool Road from Church Street having a pint in each pub and then try and remember how far we had got, I don't think there are as many pubs these days. But Eccles Cross for brekkie and see what happens, that is if I do it.

I regularly go on large walks up big hills, and also work for a charity, so I'm fairly sure nobody who knows me will sponsor me to walk a few miles of streets and watch a game of rugby. However, I'll probably support the foundation and take part by just stumping up the money myself.

Anyway, would anyone be interested in extending the scope and historical relevance of this by starting at Cavendish Street in Hulme, and heading to the Willows via the site of the New Barnes ground (Quays) before the Willows? Maybe also taking in Mile Field and Throstles Nest if anyone knows the locations.

Edit - Throstles Nest appears to have been between Ordsall Lane and the Irwell.
