Sorry to bring this back to the top BUT - in the hope that we defeat Castleford next Sunday - and then Wakefield get the go-ahead for a new stadium some days later - that will leave Bradford and Castleford without a shiny new stadia for the immediate future and not the best on-field results for either club in recent years despite Bradford being allowed to live beyond their means, regarding player purchase, which the Licensing was meant to prevent.
[i“The RFL’s independent Board of Directors reserves the right to revoke any licence awarded for the period 2012 to 2014 if it feels a club is failing, or not fulfilling, its obligations to help the competition meet the objectives of investment and growth,”[/i

Lewis said "The revocation of licences is very much about keeping pressure on the clubs.
"The clubs will have promises in their licence applications they will need to fulfil.
"There is an opportunity for licences to be lost if clubs are reneging on their promises."[/i

If it wasn't for 4 clubs entering Championship 1 for 2013 and the return to promotion and relegation into/from the Championship it may have been possible that both Yorkshire clubs had their licence revoked at the end of the year and the possibility of players wanting to come to Salford.I cannot see it happening but the assistance given to Bradford with the purchase of Odsal and the leasing back does appear unfair.
It would also seem that the forward planning and fiscal prudence is better than at some other clubs.

| Looking at Salford can't see anyone wanting to by the club and the franchise system which would not appeal as there is no fairness in game the big clubs with money challenge for honours while we as smaller clubs stick and don't progress and no relegation or nothing to play for why would any invester look to invest where there is a unfair competition. The franchise is already destroying game as clubs are starting to go bust. Where is the attraction to want to get involved in super league. Also look at tv rights it all goes to big clubs that are always on tv even that will put investors off. Are game is sowing since franchise fans ain't stupid why would they pay to go support any team as they know who will challenge league every season so there is know way any one will invest in are game for these reasons.

Sorry but I just don't agree with that - whilst I'm not 100% behind the franchise system (I'd rather see promotion and relegation), I believe there have been some benefits - bringing the salary cap in has levelled the playing field (to some degree) and there is more competition than there was a few years back. What is clear though is that any club needs backing to be able to support a good coaching setup AND spend up to the max cap without bankrupting the club - if SCR could find an Ian Lenagan character it would be brilliant.
To say there is no fairness is completely wrong - we live in a free market world, the league is constituted up to an agreed set of rules so we operate within that - inevitably there will be winners and losers - isn't that what sport is all about?

It's the other way around, surely. Why would anyone want to invest in a Super League club when there is a chance that it could lose its place in Super League and, with it, a major part of its income at the end of the year?
And for a club that's 'not progressing', we have a new stadium and a team that is gaining the respect of fans of other clubs because of the style of rugby we're playing.
How is the competition 'unfair'? How would promotion and relegation lead to more clubs challenging for honours?
Quote: eccles star "The franchise is already destroying game as clubs are starting to go bust.'"
The franchise system is nothing to do with clubs going bust. Oldham, Workington, etc. all went bust under a system of promotion and relegation. Clubs go bust because they are badly run.
Quote: eccles star "Also look at tv rights it all goes to big clubs that are always on tv even that will put investors off.'"
And aren't the TV rights shared equally between all Super League clubs?
Quote: eccles star "Are game is sowing since franchise fans ain't stupid why would they pay to go support any team as they know who will challenge league every season so there is know way any one will invest in are game for these reasons.'"
Are attendances falling across the board in Super League?
Ken Davy and Simon Moran invested in clubs that hadn't won anything for years.

| To be honest if I was an investor with a few bob looking to come into rugby league, then Salford would be the best bet, yes the Reds have been crap for ages but Salford has the best prospects as a city of any of these RL towns, I reckon if Salford had the relative success that Warrington or Huddersfield have had in recent seasons, you could get a good turn out in Salford and make it a bit of a happening place.

| The Knives are out in BradfordFormer Bradford Bulls chairman Peter Hood has hit back at claims he left the club in a far worse state than was initially thought.
Hood stepped down from the cash-strapped Super League club last month.
New director Stephen Coulby claimed in the Bradford Telegraph & Argus on Saturday that Hood and former director Andrew Bennett had budgeted to lose more than £1m this year.
But Hood responded to the accusations , saying Ryan Duckett but not, so far as I recall, from Chris Caisley, Coulby or Rowland Agar oard members]."
Reading Hood's reply yes he was intending to run the club at a £1m a year loss, but would use cunning plans to get the extra money in, surely Super League should now be investigating Bradford's management and Business Plan.

| There seems to be massive doom and gloom surrounding our future.
I know I'm new to this forum and may be speaking out of turn, but am I the only one that thinks we are missing massive marketing opportunities in as much as we are the only Manchester SL team?
Let's focus on the positives! Now the RFL have lifted the transfer embargo can we not start to build for next year with fresh optimism?
I do think the stadium is half full... Not half empty!

| welcome to the Board AndyPsteele you will learn that the average salford fan on here look on the dark side of everything, rightly so the club in the past has shot themselves in the foot and let us fans down with initiatives / plans that they didnt see though so reaily we are always looking for the fall .
The problem is in my opinion the club need to try and reconnect to the city of salford, the new mascot will help promote the club in schools but i feel we need to be seen more in the local area as well as promoting in manchester and surrounding areas.
We should be letting people know that salford are "your local team" / the pride of your city".
I also think us fans should be doing more to promote the club in every way we can be it though social media or sticking posters up in our local pubs / newagents/ work
We are reaily looking for somebody like JW who wants to be the new "mr Salford" who isnt bothered about losing a bit of money at 1st to take us too the next level, with the current financial situation i dont think there are that many / if any around.

Muppet's have more intellect than the simpleton in question. The problems will always arise when you have a situation where some clubs can spend the full salary cap and others not, with a level playing field things may well be different but until then it is a situation we will have to unfortunately suffer on an increasing basis if our recruitment and youth policy continues to be fruitful.

Perhaps we could do a Bradford, run at full salary cap and aim to lose over a million a year doing it, could we go cap in hand to the RL to bail us out if we were doing that, I doubt it all they would do would strip us of our Franchise.
Doesn't matter who is in charge, if players want to move on for more money, we can't stop them, but you must think that some of these clubs have very good accountants to afford all these superstars and still be under the cap. On the other hand we could breed our own, but once they come good they move on because we don't have the fanbase to run at full salary cap or a board that will go over the cap, because if everybody was paying the full cap how could clubs offer bigger salaries to get in other players, even offloading one will not creat the space, ie 16 players on £100,000 is the max cap, so not a full squad, yet Smith was offered £140,000 by Widnes. Something is not right in the Kingdom of Rugby League.
