well I guess the obvious answer is we can't afford what he was asking for. If money is tight they may have felt what we do have is better spent on other areas? We did table an offer for Smith to re-sign and he chose Wigan. Williams, Gibson and Ford have all been given new contracts - so maybe they are just picking who they can afford & who fits in? I guess that Long signing on as a player means we are not searching for any new half backs right now... Sneyd + DJ with Long as cover for injury / loss of form?

Yes, but you use the "I want to win trophies" speech when you move to a club that has offered you more money and is likely to win trophies. When you move to a club that has offered you more money and is another one of the also-rans, you use the "I spoke to the management there and was very impressed. They're an ambitious club and I want to be a part of it" speech.
I'm pretty sure it's a Rugby League by-law.

TBF to Gleeson, he was hurt early doors but he had what you could call a bit of a mare.
We were absolutely on fire tonight but didn't expect the result we got as you lot had also been in form of late. Stick with it - I hope you get out of the sticky spot you're in at the minute.

Tbf I think most fans would agree that Rovers are more likely to win a trophy than Salford.
Now that doesn't mean that we are likely but if Rovers are 25-1(ish) to win next seasons CC, Salford will be 40s.
I don't think either will win anything for the forseeable but what Gleeson said is still true.
In our last knockout game against each other, we beat you to nil after all.
