Someday, somewhere, today’s empires are tomorrow’s ashes.: |
|
| Quote: Bigpev "perhaps we won't have a good preseason from what was said last night, Aussie players going home and training over there as it is in their contracts, so once again we will start with a team that only gets together a couple of weeks before the season starts. Hopefully someone at the club will sort out these contracts, because it looks like the players can tell the board pretty much what they want and get it. I would say have October off and be back in November, plenty of time to renegotiate these contracts, 30 days notice and all that. Then don't let it happen again, I am sure Wilkie doesn't have similar contracts for his own staff.'"
It could be down to finance. Maybe the club don't have enough money to pay rent or whatever for the full year, so negotiate a contract that involves the players coming over later.

I thought he'd mentioned that he wants everyone back in the country for november, training together.

Thank you, Mr Parish has got my respect and 100% backing.

What Matt wants and what he gets maybe two very different things.

a couple of extra months on a rental agreement would work out cheaper, short term lets are usually the most expensive, in the long run it would be cheaper to rent for the full term of a players contract, which is what they most likely do and the player comes back to the same place, in the meantime we still are paying rent on an empty property. More to do with giving in to what a player wants and us being desperate to sign players on whatever terms to get them to Salford, which is bad for the club has it develops an us and them culture.

read too many of these posts and hey presto , you'll soon be ' Paint it Black ''"
Yeah tell me about it! Look out for a name change in the not to distant future!

| MP is a breath of fresh air after the MCrae era. At last we have a coach who says it as it is. The whole football set up has to be drastically revamped, so that each age group is coached the same, then as they progress to the first team they know all the systems and plays that are in place. This should be a basic requirement, which is not in place and this must fall squarely on steve Simms shoulders as Director of Football. To help MP put things in place, the best thing would be to get rid of any possible interference and dispense with Steve Simms as we do not need or can afford a director of football. The money saved could either be used for youth development or on the playing staff. I believe our budget for next year is the same as this years, which was cosiderably more than two seasons ago. I agree we should be looking at Championship players, and players from Samoa/ Tonga/ Fiji etc who would probably show more commitment and passion for the club. Matt Parish, i am convinced is the man for the job, he came here knowing we were unlikely to win any of the games left, but the whole idea was that he could decide who he wants to keep and who he doesnt. He will now be able to make the hard choices and it is now up to the Board and all of us fans to be positive and back him to the hilt.

Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

Ditto.
There are plenty of good players at that level who could do a good job for us.
I've been desperate for us to sign Chris Hill from Leigh for ages but that won't be happening now.
Leigh have been excellent this year though and have a team full of young, local lads that they may not be able to keep on next year due to financial constraints. Would certainly be worth a look. They're already losing Hill to Wire and Ellis to Hull, hope we've got scouts out at that level too.
Can't agree with you about Steve Simms though Brian.

| The contracts may state that they can come back in January but as any employee is aware your employer can put pressure on you to act outside the contract. Look how many do unpaid overtime etc.
I hope Parish lets the players know what is expected and they react and arrive before Xmas.
Harrison tried to establish this type of work ethic and the acdemy set up we have is a result, but we need to move on and become a modern club in a modern stadium.

For what it's worth, I agree completely.

Not disagreeing with your point at all but, as we always hear about how well KH addressed our Academy set-up, why are the U20's doing so badly??

Probably because the club is in a mess, the under 18s are on different type of contracts to under 20s aren't they? and to be honest would you see your future going anywhere under McRae?
Harrison got Hunte involved and put in place many of the things other clubs see as routine, 4 years on they have neglected for whatever reason and the players seeking full time contracts have moved on.

| I am more convinced that Matt Parish will be on his than ever, unless John Wilkinson gets Simms right out of the way.
We have got the right man but buffoons above him, who is it to be Parish or Simms.

| Buffoons above him?
Really?
Look we all want Matt to succeed but we are making him sound like the Messiah.
He has a tough job, let's back him to the hilt, but all he has done so far is to speak his mind. That's good but not the main objective of his employment.
