She comes across as being 'high as a kite' in this. Some great video footage of the newly built Kersal Flats in the 1960's. For anyone interested there is a website all about life in Kersal Flats with lots of old pictures and videos. www.kersalflats.co.uk/

She certainly does! TBH turned it off after about 10 minutes half way through a massive ramble. Also, how flaming tall is she? She looked about 6'6"!

Cheers mate.
I really enjoyed her interview. Sure, she had a couple of screws loose but her assessment of Salford was as I, in 2010, see it myself. In this I mean that Salford does have something different about it in that you want to get away, often to better yourself, but in doing so leave behind so much and so many that you love, respect and frankly can't be without for too long.
As many of you know, I live int them there 'ills. It's a very pretty place and seeing the views I get to see on a daily basis is without doubt a privelege. There's also very little crime and life is generally easy in comparison to my childhood in Salford. Yet, I still can't wait to get back there. Being around those people with there subtle wit and and 'up and at 'em' attitude to life is such a buzz. Sure, these idiosyncrasies and many more aren't as common as I'm sure they once were. But trust me; you need only travel 18 miles to realise what you've just left behind.

| livin' in them 'ills (albeit in a valley) ... not sure about the crime. I see enough "issues" and experience racial tensions to think a return would be better.
It is amazing to think such a "small town near Manchester" (sic) produced so many talented people.

Meh, we nouveau middle-class types in Smithy Bridge don't suffer half as much as other areas of the borough. Granted, Rochdale as a whole is a pretty crime-ridden place of late with many issues such as poverty, racism, drug abuse, gangs, teenage preganancy and STD's. Hmm, come to think of it, it's a hell-hole. Nevertheless, we don't appear to have these issues in Mong, sorrry, Smithy Bridge. What we have here is a quiet little place where people live isolated lives. Typical suburbia you could say. In comparison to Salford, the people tend to really lack in amibition and confidence. Two concepts you find in relative abundance in Salford. Perhaps this is why we've produced so many talented individuals throughout sport (football) and the arts. We're just a big bunch of friendly show-offs!
Of course, I fully appreciate that there's probably a thousand examples of a negative Salford but these are no different to any other area of similar socioeconomic status. Indeed, we often, as a city, tend to turn these into positives.
One such example. menmedia.co.uk/salfordadvertiser ... in_hoodies

Good john wilky last looked out
on the pitch at salford.
when the snow lay round about
deep and crisp and even
brightly played the lads that night
though the frost was cruelllll
when poor swinton scored a try

| Quote: CavendishStreet "As part of BBCs up north season I have just watched Shelagh Delayneys Salford and what a wonderful little documentry . It was only 20 minutes long but it was a wonderful snapshot of saford in the 60 ' s she commented on how the market was always thriving and the sense of community spirit was unrivalled. It was a beautiful piece of work. .did anybody else catch this?'"
I'm stuck away on business and just happened to come across the documentary. I agree, it was really good. Especially the market bit.

No he didn't, the "Barbary Coast" was used to such characters in them days, was he selling pottery?, I remember Salford market at Cross Lane next to Clarendon before it moved to the Precinct, it was killed off by the introduction of car park charges and high rents compared to Bury and Bolton.

As ironic as this may be, she had a point. Well, from what I'm told by the more experienced generation and my text books that is.
